Brake Caliper, Removing And Installing, Q8: Removing
-- Remove the front wheel. Refer to WHEELS AND TIRES .
The bolts -arrows- must not be loosened.
Improper handling increases the risk of destroying the brake caliper.
- Never loosen the bolts on the brake caliper.
-- Disconnect the connector -1- for the brake pad wear indicator.
-- Release the connector -2- for the brake pad wear indicator from its bracket in direction of -arrow A- while turning it 90° at the same time in direction of -arrow B-.
-- Free up the brake hose -3- on the bracket.
-- Pushing the inner brake pad -3- slightly into the brake caliper with suitable pliers -1- makes it easier to remove the brake caliper from the brake rotor. To prevent damage to the surface of the brake caliper, place a piece of rubber -2- between the pliers and brake caliper.
-- Remove the bolts -2-.
-- Carefully remove the brake caliper -1- with the brake carrier and installed brake pads from the brake rotor.
There is a risk of damaging the brake hose due to the weight of the brake caliper.
- Never let the brake caliper hang on the brake hose.
-- Hang the brake caliper using a suitable wire.
There is a risk of damaging the brake caliper pistons if handled incorrectly.
- Never operate the brakes when the brake caliper is removed.
