Refrigerant Shut-Off Valve -V424-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING: Removing
-- Switch off (deactivate) the "parking air conditioner". Refer to Owner's Manual.
-- Switch the ignition on.
-- Vehicles with eat Pump Function, initiate the A/C system basic setting through the Thermal Management Control Module -J1024- and open the power-activated valves through the stored routine Extract, evacuate and fill the refrigerant circuit using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester .
-- Switch the ignition off.
-- Discharge the refrigerant circuit. Refer to Refrigerant Circuit (Refrigerant R134a Servicing, Refrigerant Circuit, Working with A/C Service Station) or Working with A/C Service Station .
-- Remove the plenum chamber cover. Refer to PLENUM CHAMBER COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Do not remove the coolant hoses -2- from the heater core.
- For better clarity, this image shows the Refrigerant Shut-Off Valve -V424- with the brake booster removed and the heater core without coolant hoses.
- To clean (flush) the refrigerant circuit, the Refrigerant Shut-Off Valve -V424- must be replaced by a shut-off valve that can be manually operated. This shut-off valve must be operated in an installed state.
-- Remove the windshield wiper motor. Refer to WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR -V-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the tower brace. Refer to TOWER BRACE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the brake booster -1- from the bracket and move to the side with the lines attached. Refer to BRAKE BOOSTER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the nut -1- and the bolt -2-.
-- Remove the brake booster mount -3- upward from the bracket -4- and guide it out.
Danger of frostbite due to refrigerant coming out under pressure.
Frostbite on the skin and other parts of the body is possible.
- Wear safety gloves.
- Wear protective eyewear.
- Evacuate or drain refrigerant and open the refrigerant circuit immediately.
- If more than 10 minutes elapse after extracting or draining the refrigerant and the refrigerant circuit has not been opened, extract or drain the refrigerant again. Pressure develops in the refrigerant circuit due to evaporation.
-- Remove the refrigerant line from the pass-through for the refrigerant lines in the plenum chamber. Refer to PLENUM CHAMBER REFRIGERANT LINE PASS-THROUGH, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the bolt -B-.
-- Remove the refrigerant line -A-.
-- Remove the refrigerant line -3- from the expansion valve to the evaporator in the front heater and A/C unit. Refer to FRONT EXPANSION VALVE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Disconnect the connector -8-.
-- Loosen the refrigerant lines -3 and 4- from the equipped brackets -6-, and carefully guide with the Refrigerant Shut-Off Valve -V424- -5- toward the left fender while paying attention to the connector -8- and the wiring belonging to it.
-- Before loosening the union nuts -C-, label the refrigerant lines -D, E- and their position to the Refrigerant Shut-Off Valve -V424- -B-.
TIP
- The union nuts -C- can only be tightened when the refrigerant lines are removed. If their position is not labeled, then these can no longer be installed in one procedure.
