Overview - Suspension Strut, Shock Absorber, Spring And Coil Spring

Coil Spring
- Rear Lower Transverse Link
- Removing and installing. Refer to REAR LOWER TRANSVERSE LINK, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
- If the coil spring breaks resulting in surface damage to the transverse link, then the transverse link must be replaced.
- Removing and installing. Refer to REAR LOWER TRANSVERSE LINK, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
- Coil Spring
- Mark the installation direction with paint for reinstallation
- Removing and installing. Refer to SPRING, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, COIL SPRING .
- Installation position. Refer to Fig 2.

- Upper Spring Support
- Installation position. Refer to Fig 2.
- Lower Spring Support
- Installation position. Refer to Fig 2.
Coil Spring and Spring Plate Installation Position
- The end of the spring -1- must be positioned to the stop on the spring plates -2- -arrow-.
- The positioning pins of the spring plate must engage as shown at the top in the holes in the body -3- and at the bottom in the holes in the rear transverse link -4-.
Spring Installation Direction
- The tag on the spring with the part number -arrow- or the green marking must be installed upward.
Shock Absorber
- Nut
- Always replace after removing
- Tighten in the curb weight position. Refer to WHEEL BEARING AT STANDARD VEHICLE HEIGHT, LIFTING VEHICLES WITH AIR SUSPENSION .
- 70 Nm + 180°
- Rear Lower Transverse Link
- Removing and installing. Refer to REAR LOWER TRANSVERSE LINK, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
- Shock Absorber
- Because of different shock absorber valve systems, only install new shock absorbers from the same manufacturer on both axles, if possible.
- Removing and installing. Refer to SHOCK ABSORBER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
- Cap
- There are different versions. Refer to the appropriate Electronic Parts Information for the allocation.
- Nut
- Always replace after removing
- 35 Nm
- Bolt
- Always replace after removing
- 50 Nm + 90°
- Shock Absorber Mount
- Additional Spring
- Protective Cover
- Installed in the groove on the additional spring
- Bolt
- Always replace after removing
