Passenger Occupant Detection System, Removing And Installing: Removing

-- Pay attention to the safety precautions when working with pyrotechnic components. Refer to SAFETY PRECAUTIONS .

CAUTION:

Risk of airbag deployment.

There is a risk of injury.

- Check if the airbag indicator lamp turns on or blinks.

- If the airbag indicator lamp turns on or blinks, the DTC memory must be read.

- If >>short circuit to positive<< is a DTC memory entry, disconnect the battery. Refer to BATTERY, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING .

- If there is a DTC memory entry, the Guided Fault Finding instructions on the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester must always be followed.

- If the airbag indicator lamp does not turn on or blink, or there is no DTC memory entry with >>short circuit to positive<< : switch off the ignition, keep the ignition key outside of the vehicle and wait 10 seconds.

-- Pay attention to the additional safety precautions for working on passenger occupant detection system for front passenger airbag deactivation, market-specific version. Refer to ADDITIONAL SAFETY PRECAUTIONS FOR WORKING ON PASSENGER OCCUPANT DETECTION SYSTEM FOR FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG DEACTIVATION, MARKET-SPECIFIC VERSION .

-- Pay attention to the passenger occupant detection system deactivation after a collision, market-specific. Refer to PASSENGER OCCUPANT DETECTION SYSTEM DEACTIVATION AFTER A COLLISION, MARKET-SPECIFIC .

CAUTION:

Pyrotechnical components can deploy unintentionally.

There is a risk of injury.

- Discharge static electricity by briefly touching the door striker.

-- Remove the front passenger seat. Refer to FRONT SEAT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Secure the front seat to the :VAS6136  . Refer to FRONT SEAT, MOUNTING ON FIXTURE FOR SEAT REPAIR .

-- Remove the backrest. Refer to FRONT BACKREST, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

Version 1:

-- Remove the bolt -2-.

-- Disengage the control module -1- from the bracket -arrow-.

-- Disconnect the connectors -3 and 4- from the control module by pressing the release.

Version 2:

-- Release the control module from the catches -arrow-.

-- Disengage the control module -1- from the bracket.

-- Disconnect the connectors -2 and 3- from the control module by pressing the release.

-- Free up the wire.

-- Remove the control module for seat functions. Refer to SEAT FUNCTIONS CONTROL MODULE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- If equipped, remove the compressor from the pneumatic seat. Refer to PNEUMATIC SEAT COMPRESSOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the bracket for the front trim. Refer to SEAT SIDE TRIM/CONTROL MODULE/COMPRESSOR BRACKET, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Disconnect the modular wiring routing. Refer to MODULAR WIRING ROUTING, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING .

-- Open the corrugated tube and free up the wire.

-- Remove the nut -arrow- and free up the wire.

-- Disconnect the connectors -1, 3 and 4-.

-- Unclip and free up the wiring harness from the seat pan.

-- Remove seat cover -2- with seat cushion for seat pan. Refer to SEAT PAN COVER AND CUSHION, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- If necessary, separate the seat cover from the seat cushion. Refer to SEAT PAN COVER AND CUSHION, SEPARATING .
