Front Seat, Removing With Faulty Seat Forward/Back Adjustment Motor
- Pay attention to the safety precautions when working with pyrotechnic components. Refer to SAFETY PRECAUTIONS WHEN WORKING WITH PYROTECHNIC COMPONENTS .
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Universal Vehicle Protector:VAS871 001
Driver/Front Passenger Seat Forward/Back Adjustment Motor -V28- / -V31-, Checking
-- Move the front seat into its highest position.
- To avoid unnecessary repair costs, check electrical and electronic components and wires before removing the front seat any more.
-- Perform the following tests:
- Check the fuse. Refer to the appropriate Wiring Diagram.
- Check the voltage at the connector station and perform Fault Finding if necessary. Refer to the appropriate Wiring Diagram.
- Check the voltage on the seat forward/back adjustment motor. Refer to the appropriate Wiring Diagram.
-- Replace the fuse if faulty. Refer to the appropriate Wiring Diagram.
-- If there is no voltage at the connector station, repair or replace the wire. Refer to the appropriate Wiring Diagram.
-- If the seat forward/back adjustment motor is faulty, replace the seat pan lower frame. Refer to UPPER AND LOWER SEAT PAN FRAME, SEPARATING AND ASSEMBLING .
Removing with faulty Driver and Front Passenger Seat Forward/Back Adjustment Motor -V28- / -V31-
Risk of airbag deployment.
There is a risk of injury.
- Check if the airbag indicator lamp turns on or blinks.
- If the airbag indicator lamp turns on or blinks, the DTC memory must be read.
- If >>short circuit to positive<< is a DTC memory entry, disconnect the battery. Refer to BATTERY, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING .
- If there is a DTC memory entry, the Guided Fault Finding instructions on the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester must always be followed.
- If the airbag indicator lamp does not turn on or blink, or there is no DTC memory entry with >>short circuit to positive<< : switch off the ignition, keep the ignition key outside of the vehicle and wait 10 seconds.
Pyrotechnical components can deploy unintentionally.
There is a risk of injury.
- Discharge static electricity by briefly touching the door striker.
-- Release and disconnect the connectors on the connector station in the floor.
-- Connect the :VAS6282 to the thorax airbag harness connector. Refer to AIRBAG ADAPTER, CONNECTING AND DISCONNECTING .
-- Release and disconnect the connector on the seat forward/back adjustment motor.
-- Remove the upper center seat rail cover. Refer to UPPER CENTER SEAT RAIL COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the bolts -1 and 2- and remove the faulty forward/back adjustment motor -3- together with bracket.
-- Remove the accessible bolts for the seat rails on the bracket.
-- Push forward or back, and remove the accessible bolts for the seat rails from the bracket.
-- To protect the sill panel before prying out the front seat, apply the :VAS871 001 as shown.
-- Remove the front seat from the vehicle with a second technician.
-- Replace the seat pan lower frame together with seat forward/back adjustment motor. Refer to UPPER AND LOWER SEAT PAN FRAME, SEPARATING AND ASSEMBLING .
