Oil Pan Upper Section, Removing And Installing, With Lower Timing Chain Cover Installed: Installing
- Replace the intake tube with bolt and O-ring after removal.
Risk of contaminating the lubricating system and the bearing.
- Cover open engine components.
Risk of injuring the eyes from sealant residue.
- Wear protective eyewear.
-- Remove the sealant residue on the cylinder block -1- and the upper section of the oil pan, for example using a rotating plastic brush.
-- Clean any oil or grease off the sealing surfaces.
- Be sure to check the expiration date of the sealant.
-- Cut the tube nozzle at the front marking (nozzle diameter: about 2.5 mm).
-- Remove the alignment sleeves -1 and 2-.
-- Apply sealant in the transition between the cylinder block and lower timing chain cover -arrow-.
There is a risk that the lubrication system could be blocked by excess sealant.
- Do not apply sealant bead thicker than indicated.
-- Apply the sealant bead -arrow- to the clean sealing surface on the oil pan upper section.
- Sealant bead thickness: 3.0 mm
- Install the upper section of the oil pan within five minutes of applying the sealant.
- The help of a second technician is necessary for the following step.
-- Carefully position the oil pan upper section with a second technician at the same time guide the oil pan upper section at an angle from below to the sealing surface on the cylinder block and lower timing chain cover but do not press on the sealant bead yet.
- The sealant must not get into the threaded holes.
-- Next install all bolts by hand and then tighten.
Further installation is performed in reverse order of removal, while noting the following:
-- 2.9L engine: install the A/C compressor bracket. Refer to A/C COMPRESSOR BRACKET, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, 2.9L ENGINE WITHOUT ELECTRICAL COMPRESSOR .
-- 3.0L engine: install the A/C compressor ribbed belt. Refer to RIBBED BELT FOR A/C COMPRESSOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, 3.0L ENGINE .
-- Install the oil pan lower section. Refer to OIL PAN LOWER SECTION, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Install the steering gear. Refer to STEERING GEAR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Install the drive plate. Refer to DRIVE PLATE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
