Auxiliary Heater Control Module -J604- (WITH Auxiliary Heater Heating Element -Z35-) REMOVING AND INSTALLING: Removing
-- Switch the ignition on.
-- Set the airflow direction on the Front A/C Display Control Head -E87- / Front Information Display Control Head 2 -J1060- to "DEF" (for the windshield).
-- Set the temperature preset of the Front A/C Display Control Head -E87- / Front Information Display Control Head 2 -J1060- for the right side to "Warm" (only on a "Low" or "Mid" A/C system).
-- Move the right front seat all the way to the rear.
-- Switch off the ignition.
LHD vehicle
-- Remove the footwell vent on the front passenger side. Refer to FRONT PASSENGER SIDE FOOTWELL VENT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- If equipped, remove the air duct for the glove compartment cooling. Refer to AIR GUIDE FOR GLOVE COMPARTMENT COOLING, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the Fresh Air Blower -V2- with the Fresh Air Blower Control Module -J126-.Refer to Fresh Air Blower -V2- WITH Fresh Air Blower Control Module -J126-, EMOVING AND INSTALLING .
RHD vehicles
-- Remove the driver side footwell vent. Refer to DRIVER SIDE FOOTWELL VENT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the mounting bracket for the brake pedal. Refer to MOUNTING BRACKET, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
Continuation for all vehicles
Risk of short circuit when disconnecting the voltage supply to the.
- Interrupt the power supply to the Auxiliary Heater Heating Element -Z35- by pulling on the related fuse. Refer to Wiring Diagram.
- Before loosening the hex nut check with a voltage tester that there is no more voltage.
-- Interrupt the power supply to the Auxiliary Heater Heating Element -Z35- by pulling on the related fuse. Refer to Wiring Diagram.
Vehicles with a "Mix" or "High" A/C system, PR number 9AU/ 9AH/ 9AQ/ 9AE
-- Remove the bracket for the right adjustment motors. Refer to BRACKET FOR RIGHT ADJUSTMENT MOTORS, REMOVING AND INSTALLING (ON A "Mix" OR "High" A/C SYSTEM), PR NUMBER 9AU/ 9AH/ 9AQ/ 9AE .
-- Remove the connector from the Rear Air Distribution Door Motor -V427- / Rear Air Quantity Motor -V443-.Refer to Rear Air Distribution Door Motor -V427- / Rear Air Quantity Motor -V443- / Right Rear Air Distribution Motor -V594-, EMOVING AND INSTALLING .
Continuation for all vehicles
-- Release and disconnect the connector -A- from the Auxiliary Heater Control Module -J604- -D-.
-- Again check between connections -C- (positive) and -B- (negative) for example using a voltage tester. There must no longer be any voltage present (danger of short circuit).
- To prevent the -C- (positive) and -B- (negative) connections from being switched, they have different diameters (M6 threads and M8 threads on the Auxiliary Heater Control Module -J604-)
- If connections (C- and -B-)are interchanged, the Auxiliary Heater Control Module -J604- can no longer regulate the current so that current flows continuously through the Auxiliary Heater Heating Element -Z35- (unregulated with maximum heat output).
-- Remove the wire connections -B and C- to the Auxiliary Heater Control Module -J604-.
-- Individually insulate the wire connections -B and C- after removal (risk of short circuit).
-- Remove the bolts -E-.
There is a risk of burns by the metal surfaces on the auxiliary heater heating element. Heating elements can be very hot.
It is possible for the skin to be burned.
- Wear safety gloves.
- Never touch the metal surfaces of the heating element.
-- Remove the Auxiliary Heater Control Module -J604- (with the Auxiliary Heater Heating Element -Z35-)-D- from the installation slot on the heater and A/C unit.
