Brake Caliper, Removing And Installing: Removing

-- Release the parking brake.

-- Switch off the ignition.

• Do not disconnect the connectors from the parking brake motors.

-- Remove the rear wheel, while observing the safety precautions for vehicles with ceramic brakes. Refer to WHEELS AND TIRES .

Q7/Q8 with Steel Brakes:

-- Carefully remove the contact -5- for the brake pad wear indicator using pliers while paying attention to the clip -4-.

• If the clips go missing, the brake pad wear indicator wire must be replaced.

Q7/Q8 with Ceramic Brakes, All RSQ8:

-- Carefully remove the contact -3- for the brake pad wear indicator using pliers while paying attention to the clip -4-.

• If the clips go missing, the brake pad wear indicator wire must be replaced.

-- Remove the clip -5-.

• Pushing the inner brake pad slightly into the brake caliper with suitable pliers -1- makes it easier to remove the brake caliper from the brake rotor.
• To prevent damage to the paint coat on the brake caliper, place a piece of rubber -2- between the pliers and brake caliper.
• Do not damage the contact -3- for the brake pad wear indicator.

-- Remove the brake carrier bolts -arrows-.

-- Remove the brake caliper with brake carrier and installed brake pads from the brake rotor.

• If the brake rotor is so worn that the brake caliper cannot be removed, then the parking brake must be driven back. Refer to 4. Rear Brakes Brake Pads, Removing .

-- Hang the brake caliper using a suitable wire.
