Brake Pads, Removing And Installing, Six-Piston Brake: Removing

-- Free up the wire for the brake pad wear contact -1-, to do so open the protective cap -3- and disengage the wire from the brake caliper -arrows-.

-- Remove the brake caliper. Refer to BRAKE CALIPER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, Q7/Q8 .

If the Brake Pads are Being Replaced:

CAUTION:

There is a risk of contamination and paint damage from leaking brake fluid.

- Check the brake fluid level before pushing the brake caliper piston back into the brake cylinders.

-- If the brake fluid is up to the "MAX" marking on used brake pads, it must be extracted.

-- Evacuate the brake fluid -2- in the brake fluid reservoir with the screen installed -1-, using the Bleeding Equipment: VAS6860 or Brake Charger/Bleeder Unit: VAS5234 (example illustration).

-- Place the Piston Resetting Tool:T10145 with a wooden block -1- placed between it and the old brake pads and push the brake caliper pistons back completely into the brake caliper.

Label the brake pads when removing if they are going to be used again. Install in the same position, otherwise the braking effect will be uneven.

-- Pull out the brake pads -3 and 4- one after the other toward the center of the brake caliper.

-- Unclip the brake pad retaining plate -1-.

-- If the brake pads are being replaced, additionally unclip the brake pad spring -2- at the top and if equipped from below.

Do not change the shape of the brake pad spring and brake pad retaining plate.
Damaged brake pad springs and brake pad retaining plates must be replaced.
