Brake Pads, Removing And Installing, Six-Piston Brake: Installing

Install in the reverse order of removal while noting the following:

-- Check the brake rotors for wear and damage. Refer to BRAKE ROTOR, CHECKING, STEEL BRAKES .

CAUTION:

Health risk due to toxic dust from the brake system.

Irreversible deposit of dust particles in the lungs. Breathing impairments may occur.

- Never blow out the brake system with compressed air.

-- Clean the brake caliper at the contact surfaces -arrows- for the brake pad retaining plates.

-- Clip the brake pad retaining plates -1- into the brake caliper.

-- Unclip the brake pad spring -2- at the top and if equipped at the bottom.

-- If re-using, install the marked brake pads in the same location.

-- Insert the brake pads -3 and 4- into the brake caliper one after the other by pressing each brake pad against the brake pad springs and pushing them all the way onto the brake pad retaining plates.

-- Install the brake caliper. Refer to BRAKE CALIPER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, Q7/Q8 .

-- Install the brake pad wear indicator wire. Refer to BRAKE PAD WEAR INDICATOR WIRE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- With the vehicle stationary, firmly press the brake pedal several times so that the brake pads in the operating condition properly sit in their respective position.

-- Check brake fluid level, and fill if necessary.

CAUTION:

Faulty brakes increase the risk of an accident.

- Make sure the brakes are working correctly before driving the vehicle for the first time.
