Procedure

• Engine/transmission assembly removed and placed on the Scissor Lift Table:VAS 6131B  .
• During installation, all heat shield boots must be installed at the same location.

-- Remove the A/C compressor ribbed belt. Refer to RIBBED BELT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Detach the left and right drive axles from the transmission. Refer to DRIVE AXLE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

Vehicles with Catalytic Converter

-- Remove the catalytic converters. Refer to CATALYTIC CONVERTER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

Vehicles with a Particulate Filter:

-- Remove the particulate filter. Refer to PARTICULATE FILTER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Loosen the hose clamp -1- and remove the coolant hose.

-- Remove bolts -arrows-, and set aside the Transmission Coolant Valve -N488-.

Vehicles without Auxiliary Radiator for Transmission Fluid Cooler:

-- Loosen the hose clamp -8- and remove the coolant hose -9-.

-- Remove the nuts -4-.

-- Move the Transmission Fluid Cooling Pump -V478- -10- with the bracket -3- to the side.

Vehicles with Auxiliary Radiator for Transmission Fluid Cooler:

-- Loosen the hose clamp -upper arrow- and remove the coolant hose.

-- Disconnect the left connector -1- for the Transmission Mount Valve 2 -N263-.

-- Remove the left and right bolts -arrows- and remove the transmission support -2- with the transmission mount.

-- Equip the Scissor Lift Table:VAS 6131B  as follows:

• The remaining mounting elements remain unchanged.

-- Tighten the adapter :VAS 6131/13-7  -item 1- with the bolt -arrow- at the front left on the engine.

-- Tighten the adapter on the scissor lift table to 20 Nm.

-- Place the mounting element from the Scissor Lift Table - Audi Set:VAS 6131/10  on the left side of the transmission.

-- Position the mounting element : VAS 6131/10-4  -item 1- and Adapter:VAS 6131/11-3  -item 2- on the right side on the transmission.

-- Turn the left and right spindles upward until all the mounting pins come into contact with the mounting points.

-- Tighten the mounting element base plates to 20 Nm on the Scissor Lift Table:VAS 6131B  .

-- Remove the bolts -2 through 11- that attach the engine to the transmission.

-- Loosen the bolt -1- for the starter using the Adapter:VAS 6948  and Torque Wrench 1332 Insert - Ring Wrench - 16mm:V.A.G 1332/14 

-- Loosen the clamping screws on the side of the Scissor Lift Table:VAS 6131B  and pull the rear table top with the transmission slightly to the rear -arrow-. While doing so, remove the starter bolt completely.

-- Pull the transmission all the way to the rear. If necessary, lower it slightly using the front spindles.
