Pistons, Removing And Installing: Removing

-- Remove the corresponding cylinder head. Refer to CYLINDER HEAD, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the oil tray. Refer to OIL TRAY, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Mark the installation position and allocation:

-- If necessary, remove the Camshaft Lock : T40264/3  and turn the crankshaft accordingly.

CAUTION:

Risk of damaging the engine by the timing mechanism skipping.

- Only let the engine turn in the direction of engine rotation.

-- Turn the crankshaft using the : T40263  and : T40314  -arrow- at the same time pay attention to or guide the camshaft timing chain.

-- Remove the corresponding bolts -arrows- and remove the connecting rod bearing cap.

CAUTION:

There is a risk of damaging the oil spray jets through distortions.

- Never bend the oil spray jets.

-- Remove the pistons while paying attention to the oil spray jets.

-- Remove the circlip -2- from the piston pin eye.

-- Remove the piston pin -3- using the : VW222A  .

TIP:

If difficult to move, heat the pistons to approximately 60 °C (140 °F).

-- Remove the pistons -1- from the connecting rod -4-.
