Pinion, Removing And Installing: Removing

• The output gear of the spur gear unit as well as the parking lock gear is removed. Refer to Fig 3.
• Differential with ring gear is removed. Refer to DIFFERENTIAL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
• Vehicles with self-locking center differential: remove inner output shaft. Refer to Inner Output Shaft Roller Bearing, Removing, Vehicles with Self-Locking Center Differential .

-- Remove the circlip -1-.

• When removing the pinions -3- remove the shim -2- to that they are not bonded in the groove all around the transmission housing.

Remove the pinion 7, vehicles without electric drive motor

4 -  Press Piece - Front Wishbone:3160 

5 -  Support Bridge:2011 

6 -  Bearing Installer - Front Wheel Bearing:3110 

• The total height of the nut -8- and washer -9- may not be over 12 mm -dimension a-.
• The spindle -1- and the nut -8- must not contact the clutch housing -arrow B-.

-- Then remove the pinion -7- over the nut -2-. At the same time counterhold on the hex fitting -arrow A- of the spindle -1-.

-- Remove the shim "S ₃ ".

Vehicles with electric drive motor

-- Remove the bolt -arrow- for the oil line -1-.

-- Slight press the oil line -1- to the side that, during the next step, the Bearing Installer - Front Wheel Bearing:3110  does not damage the oil line.

1. Threaded spindle M16 with a length of at least 60 mm
2. Nut, locked (quantity 2)
3. Nut
4. Thrust bearing from Subframe Bushing Tool Kit:3301 
5. Press Piece - Multiple Use:VW 519 
6. Bushing Tool Set - Thrust Piece:3291/2  from Assembly Tool:VAS 3291 
7. Support Bridge:2011 
8. Bearing Installer - Front Wheel Bearing:3110 

• The total height of the nut -arrow 8- and washer may not be over 12 mm -dimension a-.
• The spindle -1- and the nut -arrow B- must not contact the clutch housing.

-- Then remove the pinion -9- over the nut -3-. For this, counterhold the locked nuts -arrow A-.

Continuation for all vehicles

-- Remove the shim "S ₃ ".
