Alcohol Interlock System - Wires, Routing And Connecting
- Route the wires so they cannot be pinched or abraded.
Installing
Prepare the vehicle interior for installation
-- Switch off the ignition.
-- Remove the right sill panel. Refer to SILL PANEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the A-pillar lower right trim panel. Refer to A-PILLAR TRIM PANEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the B-pillar lower right trim panel. Refer to B-PILLAR TRIM PANEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the front passenger seat. Refer to FRONT SEAT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Disconnect the battery. Refer to BATTERY, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING .
-- Remove the glove compartment. Refer to GLOVE COMPARTMENT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
Route and connect the LIN bus wire
-- Remove the Comfort System Central Control Module -J393- with the wires connected. Refer to COMFORT SYSTEM CENTRAL CONTROL MODULE -J393-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Disconnect the connector -1-.
-- Cut the cable tie -1-.
-- Release the connector housing -3- from the retainers -2- and remove the connector terminal strip -4- from the connector housing.
- Pay attention to the connector assignment PIN 4 -arrow- at the connector housing.
-- Insert the prepared LIN bus wire -2- into the connector strip terminal on Pin 4 -arrow-.
-- Slide on the connector housing onto the connector strip terminal all the way and secure with cable ties.
-- Connect the connector on the comfort system central control module and install the central control module.
-- Route the LIN bus wire -3- from the Comfort System Central Control Module -J393- -1- forward along the wiring harness.
-- Raise the carpet in front of the bench seat slightly.
-- Route the LIN bus wire -3- in the wiring duct toward the right side sill and farther on the side sill behind the glove compartment.
Route the positive cable terminal 30 and connect
-- Lift the Relay and Fuse Panel 2 -SR2- -1-. Refer to COMPONENT LOCATION OVERVIEW - RELAY PANELS, FUSE PANELS AND E-BOXES .
-- Open the clip -arrow- and press the brown Fuse Panel 3 - ST3- -2- out toward the rear.
-- Open the clamps -arrows- and remove the cover -1-.
-- Remove the retaining strip -1- for the connectors -arrow-.
-- Insert the prepared positive cable terminal 30 -1- on the rear side on location 6.
-- Press in the retaining strip -3-.
-- Clip on the fuse panel cover.
-- Insert the Fuse Panel 3 -ST3- -2- in the Relay and Fuse Panel 2 -SR2-.
-- Do not yet connect the fuse 20 A.
LHD vehicle
-- Route the terminal 30 positive cable -3- from the Relay and Fuse Panel 2 -SR2- -2- forward along the LIN bus wire.
-- Raise the carpet in front of the bench seat slightly.
-- Route the terminal 30 positive cable -3- in the side sill to the right side sill.
-- Bring together both wires at the right side sill and forward behind the glove compartment. Secure them every 20 cm with cable ties.
Route the ground wire terminal 31 and connect
-- Lift the carpet.
-- Remove the nut -1- on the footwell ground connection (on an RHD vehicle: the layout is a mirror image).
-- Secure the prepared terminal 31 ground wire on the ground connection -1-. Refer to the appropriate Wiring Diagrams, Component Locations: Ground Connections.
-- Route the terminal 31 ground wire with the LIN bus wire and terminal 30 positive cable behind the glove compartment. Secure them every 20 cm with cable ties.
Wire routing in glove compartment
-- Drill an 11 mm diameter hole in the glove compartment and install a grommet -1- 4B0 971 908 A.
-- Combine all three wires -2- in a mesh sleeve, add a heat-shrinkable tube and insert it through the grommet -1-, about 25 cm into the glove compartment.
-- Connect the alcohol interlock system inside the glove compartment, following the manufacturer instructions and secure it in the glove compartment.
-- Further installation is performed in reverse order of the removal.
