Brake Caliper Piston, Removing And Installing, Six-Piston Brake: Removing

Brake caliper removed and separated from the hydraulic system. Refer to BRAKE CALIPER, REPLACING, ALL BRAKES EXCLUDING 1LC, 1LE, 1LF .

TIP:

Make sure that the paint coat on the brake caliper is not damaged when removing the brake caliper pistons and the protective caps.

-- Tension the brake caliper in a vise with protective covers over the jaws.

CAUTION:

Leaking brake fluid increases the risk of injury.

Irritation and injury to the skin and eyes are possible.

- Wear protective eyewear.

- Wear safety gloves.

-- Place a cloth over the brake caliper chamber to catch any spraying brake fluid. Place another cloth tightly around the compressed air gun nozzle on the brake caliper.

CAUTION:

Risk of injury due to sudden release of the brake caliper piston when pressing out.

- Never reach with the fingers into the brake caliper opening.

Only one brake caliper piston can be pressed out at a time.

-- Hold the opposite brake caliper piston firmly in the brake caliper -1- using the Piston Resetting Tool -T10145- -A-.

-- To prevent damage to the brake caliper paint coating, place a piece of rubber between the Piston Resetting Tool -T10145- and the brake caliper.

-- Block the other brake caliper pistons using wooden blocks -C-, for example. Also place a protection -B- in front of the Piston Resetting Tool -T10145- -A- so that the brake caliper piston does not become damaged when being pressed out.

The bleed screws are closed.

-- Position the compressed air gun nozzle -D- to the hole for the brake hose and press the brake caliper piston -3- out of the brake caliper with compressed air.

-- Carefully pry the protective cap -4- out of the brake caliper with the Removal Tool -T40338- using gentle lifting movements, and do not damage the groove for the protective cap in the brake caliper while doing so.

-- Remove the seal -2- using the Release Tool:T10498 .

-- When removing, make sure that the piston wall surface is not damaged.

-- Repeat the work procedure on the next brake caliper piston.
