Brake Fluid Reservoir, Removing And Installing: Removing

-- Remove the plenum chamber cover. Refer to PLENUM CHAMBER COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

CAUTION:

Leaking brake fluid increases the risk of injury.

Risk of skin irritation and injury.

- Wear safety gloves.

-- Open the brake fluid reservoir.

-- Evacuate the brake fluid -2- in the brake fluid reservoir with the screen installed -1-, using the Brake Filling and Bleeding Equipment:VAS 6860  or Brake Charger/Bleeder Unit:VAS 5234  (example illustration).

CAUTION:

There is a risk of contamination and paint damage from leaking brake fluid.

- Rinse off any leaking brake fluid immediately using plenty of water.

-- To prevent brake fluid from escaping, place enough lint-free cloths in the area under the brake fluid reservoir.

-- Equipped on some models: remove the bolt -arrow- and remove the protective plate -1-. (shown on a vehicle with vacuum brake booster)

-- Disconnect the connector -2- for the Brake Fluid Level Warning Switch -F34-.

-- To prevent brake fluid from escaping, place enough lint-free cloths in the area under the brake master cylinder.

Brake Fluid Reservoir with Locking Pin:

-- Remove the locking pin -arrow- on the side of the brake fluid reservoir and from the brake master cylinder. (shown on a vehicle with vacuum brake booster)

Brake Fluid Reservoir with Tensioning Pin:

-- Drive out the tensioning pin -arrow-.

Continuation:

-- Remove the brake fluid reservoir -1- from the plugs.

-- Immediately close the open connection points with a clean plug from the Repair Kit:1H0 698 311 A  or Assembly Part Kit:5Q0 698 311  .
