Damaged Side Window, Removing
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Window Cutter: VAG1561A
- Window Cutter - Blade, Offset: VAG1561/10
- Hand drill
- 5 mm drill bit
- Pay attention to the repair information. Refer to REPAIR INFORMATION .
-- Remove the D-pillar trim panel. Refer to D-PILLAR TRIM PANEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the head curtain airbag guide. Refer to HEAD CURTAIN AIRBAG GUIDE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Removing the roof trim molding. Refer to ROOF TRIM MOLDING, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the door seal in the side window area.
-- Drill out the pop rivet heads and strike the rivet shaft. Refer to OVERVIEW - REAR SIDE WINDOW .
-- In the window glass cutting area, protect the side panel and roof against paint damage with adhesive tape.
Risk of injury to the hands and eyes from glass fragments.
Getting cut is possible.
- Wear protective eyewear.
- Wear safety gloves.
-- If equipped, release and disconnect the connectors, and free up.
-- Protect the body and vehicle interior from glass splinters.
-- Tape off the flange all the way around with fabric-reinforced adhesive tape.
-- Remove the glass pieces up to the adhesive.
-- Slide the protective film (for example from : VAS6452 ) between the trim panels and the window rests.
-- Cut through the adhesive (with glass remnants) in the opening for the window using a : VAG1561A and : VAG1561/10 (with stopper roll).
-- Remove the separated centering pin from the securing hole.
