Front Seat, Removing With Faulty Seat Forward/Back Adjustment Motor
- Follow the safety precautions. Refer to the approrpriate service information .
- To complete the procedure, a second technician is required to be at the following position found here. Refer to FRONT SEAT, REMOVING WITH FAULTY SEAT FORWARD/BACK ADJUSTMENT MOTOR - Remove the front seat from the vehicle with a second technician. .
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Trim Removal Wedge :3409
- Universal Vehicle Protector :VAS871 001
Driver/Front Passenger Seat Forward/Back Adjustment Motor -V28- / -V31-, Checking:
-- Move the front seat into its highest position.
- To avoid unnecessary repair costs, check electrical and electronic components and wires before removing the front seat any more.
-- Perform the following tests:
- Check the fuse. Refer to the appropriate Wiring Diagram.
- Check the voltage at the connector station and perform Fault Finding if necessary. Refer to the appropriate Wiring Diagram.
- Check the voltage on the seat forward/back adjustment motor. Refer to the appropriate Wiring Diagram.
- Check the voltage on the seat adjustment control head, and perform Fault Finding if necessary. Refer to the appropriate Wiring Diagram.
-- Replace the fuse if faulty. Refer to the appropriate Wiring Diagram.
-- If there is no voltage, repair or replace the wire. Refer to the appropriate Wiring Diagram.
-- If the control head is faulty: replace the Driver Seat Adjustment Control Head -E470- / Front Passenger Seat Adjustment Control Head -E471-. Refer to DRIVER/FRONT PASSENGER SEAT ADJUSTMENT CONTROL HEAD -E470- / -E471-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- If installed and the control module is faulty, replace the Memory Seat/Steering Column Adjustment Control Module -J136- / Front Passenger Memory Seat Control Module -J521-. Refer to SEAT FUNCTIONS CONTROL MODULE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- If the seat forward/back adjustment motor is faulty, replace the seat pan. Refer to SEAT PAN, DISASSEMBLING AND ASSEMBLING .
Removing with faulty Driver and Front Passenger Seat Forward/Back Adjustment Motor -V28- / -V31- :
-- Equipped on some models: remove the multimedia system display unit. Refer to the approrpriate service information .
-- If necessary, remove the fire extinguisher mount. Refer to FIRE EXTINGUISHER BRACKET, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- If necessary, remove the control module for the seat functions. Refer to SEAT FUNCTIONS CONTROL MODULE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- If necessary, remove the pneumatic system compressor. Refer to PNEUMATIC SYSTEM COMPRESSOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
Risk of airbag deployment.
There is a risk of injury.
- Check if the airbag indicator lamp turns on or blinks.
- If the airbag indicator lamp turns on or blinks, the DTC memory must be read.
- If >>short circuit to positive<< is a DTC memory entry, disconnect the battery. Refer to BATTERY, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING .
- If there is a DTC memory entry, the Guided Fault Finding instructions on the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester must always be followed.
- If the airbag indicator lamp does not turn on or blink, or there is no DTC memory entry with >>short circuit to positive<< : switch off the ignition, keep the ignition key outside of the vehicle and wait 10 seconds.
Pyrotechnical components can deploy unintentionally.
There is a risk of injury.
- Discharge static electricity by briefly touching the door striker.
-- Release and disconnect the connectors on the connector station in the floor.
-- Remove the seat rail cover on the side sill side. Refer to UPPER CENTER SEAT RAIL COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Unclip the rear bracket -2- for the wire routing on the seat pan with a flat-head screwdriver.
-- Release and disconnect the connector -1- on the seat forward/back adjustment motor.
-- Free up the wire -arrow-.
-- Remove the bolts -1 and 2-.
-- Remove the faulty seat forward/back adjustment motor -3- with bracket.
-- Remove the accessible bolts for the seat rails.
-- Push the front seat forward and back to remove the accessible bolts for the seat rails.
-- To protect the sill panel, apply the :VAS871001 .
-- Remove the front seat from the vehicle with a second technician.
-- Replace the seat pan. Refer to SEAT PAN, DISASSEMBLING AND ASSEMBLING .
-- Install the front seat. Refer to Installing .
