Procedure

Vehicles with active suspension: pay attention to the safety precautions. Refer to SAFETY PRECAUTIONS WHEN WORKING ON VEHICLES WITH ACTIVE SUSPENSION .

-- Support the engine in the installation position. Refer to ENGINE, SUPPORTING IN INSTALLATION POSITION .

-- Remove the front wheels. Refer to WHEELS AND TIRES .

-- Remove the noise insulations. Refer to OVERVIEW - NOISE INSULATION .

-- Remove the left and right wheel housing liner front sections. Refer to OVERVIEW - FRONT WHEEL HOUSING LINER .

-- Support the subframe with the Engine and Gearbox Jack: VAS 6931 and the Gearbox Support: T40173 . (Shown on a vehicle without sway stabilization).

-- Secure the subframe with the tensioning strap -arrow-.

CAUTION:

Improper handling increases the risk of damaging the threads in the vehicle body.

- Never use an impact wrench to loosen or tighten.

- Position the bolts by hand only and screw in the first threads.

To secure the subframe the Gearbox Support Locating Pins: T40327 must be installed one after the other on the left and right at the positions -1 and 2-.

The Locating Pins: T40327 must only be tightened to a maximum of 20 Nm or else the locating pin bolts will be damaged.
Due to the ribbed washers for the bolts, the holes for the subframe are slightly peened. They must be deburred if necessary.

-- Replace the bolts -1 and 2- one after the other on both sides of the vehicle via the Locating Pins: T40327 and tighten to 20 Nm.

-- Remove the left and right bolts -3-.

Remove the Locating Pins: T40327

Removal is performed in the reverse order. Note the following:

-- Only remove one locating pin at a time in a diagonal sequence. Install and tighten a new bolt in this location.

CAUTION:

- Never use an impact wrench to loosen or tighten.

- Position the bolts by hand only and screw in the first threads.

-- Remove the Engine Support Set: 10-222B . Refer to ENGINE, SUPPORTING IN INSTALLATION POSITION .

CAUTION:

There is a risk of accident due to threaded connections that are not tightened correctly.

- Tighten threaded connections correctly before driving on public roads.

-- A road test must be performed after completing repairs. If the steering wheel is crooked, the wheels must be aligned. Refer to AXLE ALIGNMENT .
