Pistons, Removing And Installing: Installing
Install in the reverse order of removal while noting the following:
- Replace bolts that were tightened with an additional turn after removing them.
Installation positions:
-- Install the compression ring. Refer to Figure.
-- Installing the oil scraping ring. Refer to Figure.
-- Oil the contact surface of the bearing shells and cylinder wall.
-- Push the piston -1- with the Funnel: T40369 carefully by hand in the cylinder in direction of -arrow-.
There is a risk of damaging the oil spray jets through distortions.
- Never bend the oil spray jets.
-- After installing the pistons check the clearance to the oil spray jets.
-- Install the connecting rod bearing cap according to the marking.
- If the piston needs to only be removed on one cylinder bank, the "TDC" camshaft position must be checked using the installed camshaft housing.
Risk of destroying the engine by adjusting the valve timing.
- The camshafts must be in TDC point.
-- Remove the bolt -3- and remove the cover -2-.
- The exhaust camshafts -1- have an asymmetrically arranged pair of grooves -arrows-. In the "TDC" position, the asymmetrically arranged pair of grooves must be above the conceived horizontal center line as shown. (Shown on the cylinder bank 2 exhaust camshaft.)
- The notch -1- on the vibration damper must align with the locating tab -2- on the belt pulley side sealing flange.
-- Install the Crankshaft Locking Pin: T40069 in the hole and tighten to 20 Nm. If necessary push the crankshaft slightly back and forth. The bolt engages in the hole on the crankshaft counterweight.
-- Install the oil tray. Refer to OIL TRAY, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Install the cylinder head. Refer to CYLINDER HEAD, INSTALLING, 3.0L ENGINE .
