Fuel Tank, Removing And Installing: Removing
-- Pay attention to all safety precautions. Refer to SAFETY PRECAUTIONS .
-- Follow the guidelines for clean working conditions. Refer to GUIDELINES FOR CLEAN WORKING CONDITIONS .
-- Disconnect the ground cable from the battery terminal. Refer to BATTERY, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING .
There is a risk of accident due to the heavy weight of the fuel tank.
- Drain the fuel tank before removing it.
-- Drain the fuel tank. Refer to FUEL TANK, DRAINING .
-- Open the fuel filler door.
-- Clean the area around the fuel filler neck.
-- Remove the fuel filler neck cap -arrow-.
Seal the fuel filler neck opening with a clean plug to prevent any dirt from getting in.
-- Remove the right rear wheel housing liner. Refer to REAR WHEEL HOUSING LINER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the fuel filler door unit. Refer to FUEL FILLER DOOR UNIT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the fuel filler neck bolts -1-.
-- If equipped, remove the ground wire -2- from the fuel filler neck metal ring.
-- Remove the nut -arrow- for the fuel filler neck.
-- Disconnect the bleeder line -1- from the EVAP canister. Disconnect the connector couplings. Refer to CONNECTOR COUPLINGS, DISCONNECTING .
-- Disengage and free up the bleeder line at the bracket -arrow-.
North America/China Market Versions:
-- Disconnect the ground wire -2- from the fuel filler neck protective plate -1-.
-- Remove the nut -arrow- for the fuel filler neck.
Continuation for All Vehicles:
-- Disconnect the bleeder line -1- from the EVAP canister. Disconnect the connector couplings. Refer to CONNECTOR COUPLINGS, DISCONNECTING .
-- Remove the fuel tank pressure sensor with the bracket. Refer to Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor -G400-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, AUDI Q7 .
-- Disengage and free up the bleeder line at the bracket -arrow-.
Continuation for All Vehicles:
-- Remove the rear underbody trim panels. Refer to UNDERBODY TRIM PANELS, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the diagonal braces. Refer to OVERVIEW - UNDERBODY BRACING .
-- Remove the rear section of the exhaust system. Refer to the appropriate Exhaust Information .
-- Remove the driveshaft. Refer to the appropriate Transmission Information .
-- Remove the subframe. Refer to OVERVIEW - SUBFRAME .
-- Versions with parking heater: loosen the clamp and remove the fuel hose -3- from the metering pump.
-- Disconnect the fuel line -2-. Disconnect the connector couplings. Refer to CONNECTOR COUPLINGS, DISCONNECTING .
Ignore -1-.
Q7 before Product Improvement:
-- Release and disconnect the fuel delivery unit connector -arrow-.
Q8 and Q7 from Product Improvement:
-- Release and disconnect the connectors -1 and 2-.
Continuation for All Vehicles:
-- Attach the : T40173 to the : VAS6931 and position it to support the fuel tank, as shown.
There is a risk of accident due to the heavy weight of the fuel tank.
- Drain the fuel tank before removing it.
-- Remove the bolts -1 through 7-.
For clarity, the fuel tank is shown without the engine and gearbox jack.
-- Lower the fuel tank using the : VAS6931 .
-- Lower and remove the fuel tank by turning it in the corresponding direction.
When guiding out the fuel tank, pay attention to the clearance to the fuel filler neck.
