Drive Axle, Removing And Installing: Installing
Install in the reverse order of removal while noting the following:
- Replace the bolts after removing them.
- Replace the seal after removal.
- Lock the gear backlash on the gear using the Locking Tool: T40362 .
- A new gear is delivered with an assembly aid that is used instead of the Locking tool: T40362 .
- Clean the threaded holes for the end cap threaded connection for example with a thread tap.
- Lubricate the bearing area before assembly.
-- Bring the drive axle -3- with thrust washer -2- into the installation position.
-- Position the gear carrier -1- with a new seal and tighten the bolts -arrows-.
-- Push the gear -1- to the stop on the drive axle splines at the same time apply counter pressure on the drive axle from the belt pulley side.
- The splines of the gear for the drive axle engage in the crankshaft gear.
-- Tighten the bolt -arrow- to do so counterhold the crankshaft using the Crankshaft Key: T40049 .
-- Push the gear -1- on the belt pulley side on the drive axle.
- Installation position: the labeled side points outward.
-- Tighten the bolt -arrow- to do so counterhold the crankshaft using the Crankshaft Key: T40049 .
-- Install the coolant pump. Refer to COOLANT PUMP, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Install the camshaft timing chains. Refer to CAMSHAFT TIMING CHAIN, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
