Airbag II, My 1993
Read all Airbag II safety measures BEFORE doing any work on the airbag system. Refer to AIRBAG II SAFETY MEASURES .
DO NOT re-use any fasteners that are worn or deformed in normal use. Many fasteners are designed to be used only once and become unreliable and may fail when used a second time. This includes, but is not limited to, nuts, bolts, washers, self-locking nuts or bolts, circlips, and cotter pins. Always follow the recommendations given in this publication. For replacements always use new parts.
Only use the Scan tool: VAG1551 to test the driver and passenger side Airbag II system.
After switching the ignition on, the airbag Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) will be illuminated for approximately 10 seconds.
If a malfunction or sporadic malfunction is detected, the indicator light will flash (blink) for approximately 25 seconds after 10 second check, then stay on steady.
When the MIL goes out, the system is functional.
Check using : VAG1551 if the airbag MIL does not go out after approx. 10 seconds, or if it does not come on (check bulb first).
If all indicator light checks are OK, check airbag system with : VAG1551 .
