Headlamp, Adjusting, General Information
- The following test and adjustment description applies to all countries.
- However, national guidelines or regulations of the country must be observed.
Testing and Adjusting Conditions
- Tire pressure is OK.
- The headlamp glass must be clean and dry.
- The headlamp glass must not be damaged.
- Headlamp reflectors and bulbs are OK.
- The electro-mechanical parking brake must not be engaged so the vehicle is not under tension.
- The vehicle and headlamp adjusting unit must be on a level surface.
- Keep all doors and the rear lid closed for the duration of the testing/adjusting procedure.
- The headlamp must cool down to room temperature -- check by touching the back of the headlamp housing cover when the hood is open.
- The vehicle must be under load.
Vehicle load on driver seat in otherwise unloaded vehicle (curb weight).
- One person or 75 kg (165 pound).
The curb weight is the weight of the operational vehicle with a completely full fuel tank, including the weight of all equipment carried while in operation.
- Fuel tank, washer fluid reservoir, and SCR tank: at least 90% full.
- Equipment: for example, spare tire, tools, vehicle jack, fire extinguisher, etc.
If the fuel tank is not at least 90% full, the load must be prepared as follows.
-- Check the fuel tank fill level in the instrument cluster fuel gauge and compare it with the following table. Place additional weight in the luggage compartment, if necessary.
| Fuel Gauge | Additional Weight (54 liter (14 gallons) tank PR number 0M1 / 58 liter (15 gallons) tank PR number 0M2) | Additional Weigh (40 liter (10.5 gallons) tank PR number 0M0) | Additional Weight (A4 g-tron, natural gas tank PR number 0M3) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Empty | 44 kg (97 pounds) | 32 kg (71 pounds) | 20 kg (44 pounds) |
| 1/4 | 33 kg (73 pounds) | 24 kg (53 pounds) | 15 kg (33 pounds) |
| 1/2 | 22 kg (49 pounds) | 16 kg (35 pounds) | 10 kg (22 pounds) |
| 3/4 | 11 kg (24 pounds) | 8 kg (18 pounds) | 5 kg (11 pounds) |
| full | 0 | 0 | 0 |
| Example: If the fuel tank (54 liter (14 gallons) tank PR number 0M1) is halfway filled an additional weight of for example 22 kg (49 pounds) must be placed in the luggage compartment. | |||
TIP:
Use containers filled with water as additional weight (a five liter container filled with water weighs approximately 5 kg (11 pounds).
Continuation for All Vehicles:
- The angle dimension -arrow- is stamped for ECE countries on the upper edge of the headlamp -1- in "%".
- The angle dimension for the North American market version (before Product Improvement) is generally 0.0% based on the "VOR" adjustment instructions.
- The angle dimension for the North American market version (from Product Improvement) is generally 0.7% based on the "VOL" adjustment instructions.
TIP:
The percentage value is based on a 10 meter projection distance. An angle dimension of 1.0%, for example, converts to 10 cm.
-- If equipped, pry off the cover -1- in direction of -arrows-.
