Brake Pads, Removing And Installing, Steel Brakes 1LA/1LB: Removing

-- Remove the front wheel. Refer to WHEEL, CHANGING AND MOUNTING .

TIP: 

Label the brake pads when removing if they are going to be used again. Install in the same position, otherwise the braking effect will be uneven.

-- Disconnect the connector -2-.

-- Release the tab -arrow A- and turn 90° -arrow B- at the same time. Then remove and free up the brake pad wear sensor -1- from the bracket.

-- Pry the spring -1- out of the brake caliper housing -arrows- and remove it.

TIP:

Pushing the brake pad -2- slightly into the brake caliper using suitable pliers -1- makes it easier to remove the brake caliper housing from the brake rotor. To prevent damage to the paint coat on the brake caliper, place a piece of rubber -3- between the pliers and the brake caliper. (Shown on a different brake caliper)

-- Remove the caps -2 and 3- from the guide pins.

CAUTION:

- Never let the brake caliper hang on the brake hose.

-- Remove the guide pins -arrow- and remove the brake caliper housing -1-.

-- Hang the brake caliper housing using a suitable wire.

-- Remove the brake pads.

CAUTION:

- Never operate the brakes when the brake caliper is removed.
