Upper Timing Chain Covers, Removing And Installing: Removing
Depending on the model preliminary work may be required: TIMING CHAIN COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the rear fuel line. Refer to REAR FUEL LINE, REMOVING .
Cylinder Bank 1 (Right):
-- If necessary, free up the wiring harness.
-- Remove the double bolts -2- and bolts -1- and remove the bracket for the electrical coolant pump After-Run Coolant Pump -V51-.
-- Disconnect the connector -1- for the Camshaft Adjustment Valve 1 -N205- and free up the wire.
-- Remove the nuts -arrows- and free up the bracket with the wiring harness.
-- Loosen and remove the bolts/double bolt in the following sequence: -8 to 1-.
Cylinder Bank 2 (Left), Equipment Version with Particulate Filter:
-- If necessary, remove the bolts -arrows- and remove the bracket -1-. There are different versions.
Cylinder Bank 2 (Left), Continuation for All Vehicles:
-- Disconnect the connectors and free up the wires:
1 - For the Camshaft Adjustment Valve 2 -N208-
3 - For the Exhaust Camshaft Adjustment Valve 2 -N319-
Audi A8 / S8:
-- Remove the connector -2- from the bracket and then free up the wires.
-- Remove the nuts -arrows- and push the bracket with the wiring harness to the side.
All:
-- Remove the bracket -4- for the vacuum line from the double bolt and push it to the side.
-- Loosen and remove the bolts/double bolt in the following sequence: -8 to 1-.
Continuation for Both Sides:
-- Carefully loosen and remove the timing chain cover from the bond.
Risk of destroying the engine by small parts inadvertently entering with the upper timing chain cover removed.
- Cover the timing chain opening with a clean cloth.
