Upper Timing Chain Covers, Removing And Installing: Installing

-- Remove any old sealant from the sealing surfaces.

CAUTION:

Risk of injuring the eyes from sealant residue.

- Wear protective eyewear.

-- Remove the sealant residue on the timing chain cover -1- and cylinder head using a rotating plastic brush, for example.

-- Clean any oil or grease off the sealing surfaces.

-- Cut the tube nozzle at the front marking (nozzle diameter: about 2 mm).

CAUTION:

There is a risk that the lubrication system could be blocked by excess sealant.

- Do not apply sealant bead thicker than indicated.

-- Apply the sealant bead -arrow- on the clean sealing surface of the cylinder bank 1 timing chain cover (right).

-- Apply the sealant bead -arrow- on the clean sealing surface of the cylinder bank 2 timing chain cover (left).

-- Push the timing chain cover carefully on the alignment sleeves on the cylinder head but do not press on the sealant bead.

-- Install all bolts for the timing chain cover first by hand and then tighten.

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

-- Install the rear fuel line. Refer to HIGH PRESSURE PIPE, INSTALLING .
