Drive Axle, Removing And Installing: Removing
- The transmission is removed. Refer to the appropriate Transmission Information .
-- Remove the camshaft timing chains. Refer to CAMSHAFT TIMING CHAIN, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the coolant pump. Refer to COOLANT PUMP, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Tighten the Crankshaft Key: T40049 with the bolts -1 and 2- on the crankshaft.
Risk of destroying the engine by adjusting the valve timing.
- Never turn the crankshaft with the camshaft timing chain removed.
-- Remove bolts -arrows- and remove guide rail -1-.
-- Remove the guide pin -2- and pivot the guide rail -1- to the left side and secure again with the guide pin in the threaded hole -arrow-.
-- On the belt pulley side remove the bolt -arrow- to do so counterhold the crankshaft using the Crankshaft Key: T40049 .
-- Remove the gear -1-.
-- Lock the gear backlash on the gear, to do so insert the Locking Tool: T40362 all the way in the gear.
- The opening in the handle points to the center of the gear.
-- Turn the adjusting pin 90° counter-clockwise -arrow-.
-- Remove the bolt -arrow- to do so counterhold the crankshaft using the Crankshaft Key: T40049 .
-- Remove the gear -1-.
-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and remove the drive axle gear carrier -1-.
-- Remove the drive axle -3- with the thrust washer -2- to the transmission side from the cylinder block.
