If mechanical damage (such as a destroyed compression wheel) is found on the turbocharger, just replacing the turbocharger is not enough. To avoid subsequent damage later, perform the following steps:

• Check the air filter housing, air filter element and air duct hoses for contamination.
• Check the entire charge air circuit and charge air cooler for foreign objects.
• If there are foreign objects in the charge air system, clean the charge air circuit and replace the charge air cooler if necessary.

Removing 

-- Follow the rules for clean working conditions. Refer to CLEAN WORKING CONDITIONS .

Preliminary work may be required depending on the model. Refer to TURBOCHARGER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Drain the coolant. Refer to COOLANT, DRAINING AND FILLING .

-- Remove the right lower air duct pipe. Refer to AIR DUCT PIPE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

Vehicle without Particulate Filter:

-- Remove the right front muffler. Refer to FRONT MUFFLER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Loosen the bolt-type clamp -1- and move the right catalytic converter toward the rear.

Vehicles with a Particulate Filter:

-- Remove right particulate filter. Refer to PARTICULATE FILTER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and then remove the retaining plate -3-.

-- Remove the coolant line -1-.

-- Remove the coolant line -2- and oil supply line -4-.

-- Remove the crankcase ventilation hose -1- by pressing the release buttons on both sides.

-- Disconnect the connector -3-.

-- Remove the vacuum hose -2- at the same time to not damage it.

-- Loosen the bolt-type clamp -arrow-.
