Chain TENSIONER, Removing And Installing: Removing

-- Remove the affected upper timing chain cover. Refer to UPPER TIMING CHAIN COVERS, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

CAUTION:

Risk of damaging the engine by the timing mechanism skipping.

- Only let the engine turn in the direction of engine rotation.

-- Using the Wrench - 21mm: T40263  and Adapter: T40314  , turn the crankshaft -arrow- until the vibration damper is at "BDC". (shown on a 3.0L engine).

Cylinder Bank 1 Chain Tensioner (Right):

-- Push back the pistons of the chain tensioner -3- using a screwdriver -1- all the way -arrow- and lock the chain tensioner using the Locking Pins: T03006  .

TIP: 

The piston is lubricated with oil and can only be pushed back slowly by applying constant pressure.

-- Remove the bolts -2 and 4- and the chain tensioner.

CAUTION:

Risk of damaging valves and piston crowns.

- Never turn the crankshaft when the camshaft timing chain is removed.

-- Turn back the guide rail -3- -arrow- and pistons from the chain tensioner -1- using the Locking Pins: T03006  .

TIP:
