Cam Actuator, Removing And Installing

-- Remove air filter upper section. Use the applicable steps from the service information for this. Refer to AIR FILTER HOUSING, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

Cylinder Bank 1 (Right) Cam Actuator, Removing

-- Release and disconnect the connectors.

1. For Cylinder 1 Intake Cam Actuator 1 -F448-, Cylinder 2 Intake Cam Actuator 1 -F452- and Cylinder 3 Intake Cam Actuator 1 -F456-
2. For Ignition Coil 1 with Power Output Stage -N70-, Ignition Coil 2 with Power Output Stage -N127- and Ignition Coil 3 with Power Output Stage -N291-

-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and free up the ground cable.

Cylinder Bank 2 (Left) Cam Actuator, Removing

-- Remove the bolts -arrows- for the ground wires.

-- Disconnect the connectors:

1. For Cylinder 4 Intake Cam Actuator 1 -F460-, Cylinder 5 Intake Cam Actuator 1 -F464- and Cylinder 6 Intake Cam Actuator 1 -F468-
2. For Ignition Coil 4 with Power Output Stage -N292-, Ignition Coil 5 with Power Output Stage -N323- and Ignition Coil 6 with Power Output Stage -N324-
3. For the Camshaft Position Sensor 2 -G163-

-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and free up the ground cable.

Vehicles with High-Voltage System:

-- Remove the air filter housing. Refer to AIR FILTER HOUSING, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Release and disconnect the connector -1- for the Engine Coolant Level Sensor -G32-.

-- Release the retainers using a screwdriver -arrow-, pull off the coolant expansion tank -2- with connected coolant hoses upward out of the bracket as far as possible and put aside.

-- Unclip and free up the refrigerant line -7- from the coolant line -2- out of the bracket.

-- Open the clip -3- and free up the coolant hose -6-.

-- Remove the bolts -arrows-.

-- Remove the coolant expansion tank bracket -1- upward and then move it to the side. While doing so, guide the guide piece out of the grommet -4- of the bracket -5-.

-- Loosen the hose clamp -1-, remove the air duct pipe from the Throttle Valve Control Module -J338- and push it to the side.

-- Push the upper section of the noise insulation upward.

-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and then remove the cam actuator -1-.

Installing 

Install in the reverse order of removal while noting the following:

• Check the O-rings for damage

-- Install the air filter upper section. Refer to AIR FILTER HOUSING, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

Tightening Specifications 

• Refer to OVERVIEW - CAMSHAFT HOUSING .
• Ground Wires. Refer to the appropriate Wiring Diagram.
