Procedure

Engine/transmission assembly removed and placed on the Scissor Lift Table: VAS6131B .

-- Remove the ribbed belt tensioner for the A/C compressor. Refer to RIBBED BELT TENSIONER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the starter generator. Refer to GENERATOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING . The subframe remains in the installed position.

-- Remove the drive axles on the transmission. Refer to DRIVE AXLE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

Procedures if Engine Removal is Not Completed:

-- Remove the ATF cooler. Refer to the appropriate Service Information .

-- Remove the lower cover -1- from the transmission in direction of -arrow-.

CAUTION:

Risk of damaging the engine by the timing mechanism skipping.

- Only let the engine turn in the direction of engine rotation.

-- To loosen the bolts for the torque converter, counterhold the crankshaft using the Wrench - 21mm: T40263 and Adapter: T40314 on the vibration damper.

-- Remove the six bolts -arrow- for the torque converter on the drive plate -1-. Turn the crankshaft an additional 60° in the direction of engine rotation.

-- Remove the bolt -arrow- and free up the bracket -1- with the wiring harness.

-- Loosen the hose clamp -arrow- and remove the coolant hose.

Vehicles with High-Voltage System:

-- Remove the bolts -2- from the bracket -3-.

-- Detach the clips -arrows- for the Electrical A/C Compressor High-Voltage Cable -- -1-.

-- Lay the Electrical A/C Compressor High-Voltage Cable -- -2- on the left side of the transmission -arrow- and alongside the left of the flange shaft -1-.

TIP:

The Electrical A/C Compressor High-Voltage Cable -- is not completely removed and remains installed on the engine.

-- Detach the clips -arrow- for the Electrical A/C Compressor High-Voltage Cable -- -1- from the transmission.

-- Tie the Drive Motor High-Voltage Wiring Harness -- and the Electrical A/C Compressor High-Voltage Cable -- to the left side of the vehicle.

-- Remove the bolt -2-, loosen the hose clamp -1-, and remove the right coolant pipe -3-.

-- Equip the Scissor Lift Table: VAS6131B as follows:

The remaining mounting elements remain unchanged.

-- Secure the Scissor Lift Table - Q7 Set - Articulated Joint Support: VAS6131/13-7 as shown on the left front of the engine in the ribbed belt tensioner threaded hole.

-- Tighten the engine supports on the scissor lift table to 20 Nm.

-- Place the mounting element from the Scissor Lift Table - Audi Set : VAS6131/10 on the left side of the transmission.

-- Place the mounting elements from the Scissor Lift Table - Audi Set: VAS6131/10 and Scissor Lift Table - A8 Set Adapter: VAS6131/11-1 on the right of the transmission.

-- Turn the left and right spindles upward until all the mounting pins come into contact with the mounting points.

-- Fasten the mounting element base plates to 20 Nm on the Scissor Lift Table: VAS6131B .

-- Remove the catalytic converter. Refer to CATALYTIC CONVERTER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the bolts -2 through 11- that attach the engine to the transmission.

-- Loosen the bolt -1- for the starter using the Torque Wrench 1332 Insert - Ring Wrench - 16mm: VAG1332/14 .

-- Loosen the clamping screws on the side of the Scissor Lift Table: VAS6131B and pull the rear table top with the transmission slightly to the rear -arrow-. While doing so, remove the starter bolt completely.

-- Pull the transmission all the way to the rear. If necessary, lower it slightly using the front spindles.
