Sealing Flange, Removing And Installing, Transmission Side: Installing

Replace the sealing flange after removal.

-- To prevent contamination of the lubricating system with sealant residue, place a clean cloth over the open part of the oil pan.

CAUTION:

Risk of Injuring the Eyes from Sealant Residue

- Wear protective eyewear.

-- Remove any remaining sealant from the cylinder block -1- using, for example, a rotating plastic brush.

-- Clean any oil and grease off of the sealing surfaces and crankshaft journal.

Check the sealing lip of the sealing flange, it must not be kinked or damaged.

The sealing lip must be pointed to the engine after installing. If the sealing lip >>folds<< outward when installing, leaks will result.

-- Check the : T10122/6 -B- ; it must not be tilted or contaminated.

-- Mount the : T10122/1 -A- on the Crank Shaft Seal Installer - Guide Piece -B-.

-- Slide the Sealing Flange -C- on the : T10122/6 -B-, with the outer side on it.

-- Remove the : T10122/1 -A-.

-- Remove the Guide Piece -A-.

TIP:

Be sure to check the expiration date of the sealant.

-- Cut the tube nozzle at the front marking (nozzle diameter: approximately 2 mm).

In the illustration the Crank Shaft Seal Installer - Guide Piece : T10122/6A is not shown.

CAUTION:

Risk of engine damage due to excess sealant in the lubrication system.

- Do not apply sealant bead thicker than indicated.

Sealant bead thickness: 2 to 3 mm.
The sealing flange must be installed within five minutes of applying the sealant.

-- Place the : T10122/6 -A- with the Sealing Flange -B- on the crankshaft journal.

TIP:

It is not necessary to tighten the bolts -arrows-

-- Slide the Sealing Flange -B- through the : T10122/1 -A- on the crankshaft journal.

-- Remove the : T10122/1 -A-.

-- Tighten the sealing flange.

After installing the sealing flange, the sealant must harden for approximately 30 minutes. Only afterward may the engine oil be replenished.

Further installation is performed in reverse order of removal, while noting the following:

-- Vehicle without high-voltage system: install the drive plate. Refer to DRIVE PLATE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Check the oil level. Refer to ENGINE OIL .
