Camshaft, Measuring Radial Clearance

Plastigauge^®

Procedure

Use the old bolts for radial clearance measurement.

-- Remove the camshafts. Refer to CAMSHAFT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Mark the allocation of the roller rocker lever for installation later.

-- Remove the roller rocker lever and place it on a clean surface.

-- Clean the bearing and the bearing journals.

-- Place the Plastigauge^® over entire width of bearing journal or into the bearing.

The Plastigauge^® must rest in center of bearing.

-- Re-install the camshafts, mount the camshaft housing and tighten with an additional turn. Refer to Figure, do not turn the camshafts while doing this.

-- Remove the camshaft housing and the camshafts again.

-- Compare the width of the Plastigauge^® with the measuring scale.

Radial clearance:

0.024 to 0.066 mm.

-- Replace the bolts for the final assembly.
