Camshaft, Measuring Axial Clearance

Special tools and workshop equipment required

Dial Indicator Holder:VW387
Dial Gauge - 0-10mm:VAS6079

Procedure

The camshaft housing is removed. Refer to CAMSHAFT HOUSING, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the :T40331/1 .

-- Secure the :VAS6079 with the :VW387 on the camshaft housing.

-- Press the camshaft against the dial gauge by hand.

-- Set the dial gauge to "0".

-- Press camshaft off the dial gauge and read the value:

Axial clearance

Intake camshaft: 0.014 to 0.064 mm.
Exhaust camshaft: 0.048 to 0.155 mm.
