Cylinder Head Bank 2 (Left), Removing, 2.9L Engine

Special tools and workshop equipment required

Engine Bung Set:VAS6122
Socket T30:T10405

Procedure

Depending on the model preliminary work may be required. Refer to CYLINDER HEAD, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the left camshaft housing. Refer to CYLINDER BANK 2 (LEFT) CAMSHAFT HOUSING, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the left turbocharger. Refer to TURBOCHARGER, REMOVING, CYLINDER BANK 2 (LEFT), 2.9L ENGINE .

Audi A6/A7 without Electrical Compressor:

-- Bring the engine mount into the installation position and install the bolts all the way.

Audi A6/A7 with Electrical Compressor:

-- Bring the engine support and engine mount into the installation position and install the bolts all the way.

-- Move the subframe into the installation position and tighten the bolts to 115 Nm.

-- Bring the engine mount into the installation position and install the bolts all the way.

-- Lower the engine on the engine mount.

-- Remove the extractor. Refer to ENGINE, SUPPORTING IN INSTALLATION POSITION .

Continuation for All:

-- Remove the coolant pipes. Refer to COOLANT PIPES, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the oil dipstick tube -2- from the belt pulley side sealing flange.

-- Remove the bolt -arrow- and remove the bleeder line -3- from the cylinder head.

-- Disconnect the vacuum hose -1- at the same time do not damage it.

-- Remove the bolts -3- and the chain tensioner -4-.

-- Remove the guide rail bolt -5-.

-- If the cylinder head is removed with the engine installed: push the tensioning rail -2- upward -arrow- and secure using a cable tie to the camshaft timing chain -1- as shown.

-- Remove the bolts -arrows and 9-.

-- Loosen the cylinder head bolts in the sequence -1 to 8-.

-- Remove the bolts and the cylinder head carefully.

-- Lay the cylinder head on a soft surface, such as foam.

-- Seal the open channels of the intake and exhaust tract with a clean cloth or with completely clean plugs from the :VAS6122 .

To replace the bolt -left lower arrow- ; remove the left intake manifold. Refer to INTAKE MANIFOLD, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
