Camshaft Timing Chain, Removing From Camshafts, Cylinder Bank 2 (Left): Installing
- The crankshaft is locked using the :T40264/3 or :T40069 at "TDC" point.
- The :T40331/1 is tightened on the camshaft housing to 9 Nm.
- Replace the friction disk (diamond discs) -item- 11 and -item- 12 after removal.
Risk of destroying the engine with the friction disc not being installed.
- Check the installation of the friction disc (diamond disc) between the camshaft adjuster and the camshaft stub.
- The marks -1 and 2- on the camshaft adjusters must align with the corresponding locating tabs -arrows- on the camshaft housing.
-- Bring the camshaft adjuster with the camshaft timing chain positioned in the previously described installation position at the same time pay attention to the applied markings when removing.
-- Oil the control valves -1 and 2- on the threads and the control valve contacts surface and install loosely.
- Both camshaft adjusters must be able to be turned on the camshaft.
-- Remove the :T03006 .
-- Have a second technician position the :VAS6583 with the :VAS261001 and :T90001 on the intake camshaft adjuster and tension to 30 Nm counter-clockwise in direction of -arrow- and hold.
-- Tighten the control valve with :T90000 as follows while the camshaft adjuster is still being held under tension:
- Control valve -2- on the exhaust camshaft 30 Nm.
- Control valve -1- on the intake camshaft 30 Nm.
Valve Timing, Checking
-- Remove the Camshaft Positioning Tool:T40331/1 .
-- Remove the Camshaft Lock:T40264/3 or Crankshaft Locking Pin:T40069 .
Risk of destroying the engine by adjusting the valve timing.
- Never turn the crankshaft and camshafts if the chain drive is not completely installed.
-- Using the :T40263 and :T40314 , turn the crankshaft two turns -arrow- until the vibration damper is back at "TDC".
- The marks -1 and 2- on the camshaft adjusters must align with the corresponding locating tabs -arrows- on the camshaft housing.
- The notch -1- on the vibration damper aligns to the locating tab -2- on the belt pulley side sealing flange.
Procedure, If the Engine Is NOT Removed Due to Preliminary Work.
-- Install the :T40264/3 at the vibration damper opening all the way by hand into the belt pulley side sealing flange. If necessary, move the crankshaft back and forth slightly to center the bolt.
Procedure, If the Engine Is Removed Due to Preliminary Work.
-- Install the :T40069 in the hole and tighten to 20 Nm. If necessary push the crankshaft slightly back and forth.
Continuation:
- The help of a second technician is necessary for the following step.
-- Have a second technician position the :VAS6583 with the :VAS261001 and :T90001 on the camshaft adjuster for intake camshaft and tension to 30 Nm counter-clockwise in direction of -arrow- and hold.
- It must be easy to insert the :T40331/1
.
- Do not use a hammer to install the camshaft positioning tool.
-- Insert the prepared :T40331/1 all the way in the camshaft.
- The :T40331/5 engages as shown in the upper asymmetrical groove -1- on the exhaust camshaft.
- The :T40331/6 engages as shown in the flattened position -2- on the intake camshaft.
If the :T40331/1 CANNOT be Inserted:
-- Remove the :T40264/3 or :T40069 .
-- Insert the prepared :T40331/1 all the way in the camshafts as previously described. For this turn the crankshaft slightly.
-- Loosen the control valves -1 and 2- a half a turn using the :T90000 .
-- Repeat the adjustment. Refer to Have a second technician position the :VAS6583 with the :VAS261001 and :T90001 on the intake camshaft adjuster and tension to 30 Nm counter-clockwise in direction of -arrow- and hold. .
If the :T40331/1 can be Inserted:
-- Remove the :T40264/3 or :T40069 .
-- Remove the :T40331/1 .
-- Place the :T90001 and :T90002 on the intake camshaft adjuster.
-- Support the counterholder on the exhaust camshaft control valve -2-. If necessary slightly turn the crankshaft.
-- Turn the control valve -1- a 35° additional turn using the :T90000 .
-- Place the :T90001 and :T90002 on the exhaust camshaft adjuster.
-- Support the counterholder on the intake camshaft control valve -1-. If necessary slightly turn the crankshaft.
-- Turn the control valve -2- a 35° additional turn using the :T90000 .
-- Install the vacuum pump. Refer to VACUUM PUMP, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Install the upper air duct pipe. Refer to AIR DUCT PIPE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Install the cylinder bank 2 upper timing chain cover. Refer to TIMING CHAIN GUARD UPPER SECTION, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
Additional procedures. Refer to CAMSHAFT TIMING CHAIN, REMOVING FROM CAMSHAFTS .
-- If changes on the timing chain make place or components should be replaced, perform the corresponding adaptations in the Guided Functions "0001 - Engine electronics, functions". Use the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.
