Camshaft Timing Chain, Removing And Installing: Removing

-- Remove the lower timing chain cover. Refer to LOWER TIMING CHAIN COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

Cylinder Bank 2 (left) Camshaft Timing Chain:

CAUTION:

Risk of destroying a used camshaft timing chain by reversing the running direction.

- Before removing, make a arrow marking of the running direction and allocation with paint.

- Pay attention to the running direction when reinstalling.

-- Remove the camshaft timing chain from the cylinder bank 2 (left) camshafts. Refer to CAMSHAFT TIMING CHAIN, REMOVING FROM CAMSHAFTS .

-- Remove the guide pin -arrow- and remove the tensioning rail -1- downward.

-- Remove the camshaft timing chain -2- upward.

Cylinder Bank 1 (Right) Camshaft Timing Chain:

Removing the cylinder bank 2 (left) camshaft timing chain.

-- Remove the camshaft timing chain from the cylinder bank 1 (right) camshafts. Refer to CAMSHAFT TIMING CHAIN, REMOVING FROM CAMSHAFTS .

-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and chain tensioner -4-.

-- Remove the mounting pin -2- and the camshaft timing chain -3- with the tensioning rail -1-.

-- If changes on the timing chain make place or components should be replaced, perform the corresponding adaptations in the Guided Functions "0001 - Engine electronics, functions". Use the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.
