Airbag Unit With Igniter, Removing And Installing, Vehicles From 07/2017: Removing

-- Pay attention to the safety precautions when working with pyrotechnic components. Refer to SAFETY PRECAUTIONS .

-- Move the steering wheel as far to the rear and down as possible. Use the full steering column adjustment range for this.

-- Disconnect the battery ground cable when the ignition is turned on. Refer to BATTERY, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING .

-- Turn the steering wheel -1- approximately 90° clockwise to the side out of the straight-ahead position -arrow A-, so that the opening -arrow B- on the rear side of the steering wheel faces directly upward (approximately in the 12 o'clock position).

To prevent damage to the wires do not use a flat-head screwdriver.

-- Guide a Phillips head screwdriver -1- or Torx screwdriver T15 (approximately 80 mm long) in the opening until it stops.

-- Release the locking bracket for the airbag by pulling the Torx screwdriver upward forcefully -arrow-.

-- The airbag catch -arrow B- is loosened from the steering wheel by pressing down the locking bracket -1-.

-- If the airbag unit cannot be detached, push it back into the steering wheel and repeat the procedure.

-- Move the steering wheel -1- back counter-clockwise 180° -arrow A-, so that the opening -arrow B- on the rear side of the steering wheel faces directly upward (approximately in the 12 o'clock position).

-- Loosen the second catch -arrow A- on the steering wheel.

-- Bring the steering wheel back into the center (wheels are straight).

-- Remove the airbag -1- from the steering wheel slightly.

-- Disconnect the connector -2-.

-- Remove the connector lock -4- and disconnect the connector -3-.
