Brake Pads, Removing And Installing, Brakes 1LL, 1ZA, 1ZC, 1ZK, 1LI, 1ZD: Installing

Install in reverse order of removal and note the following:

NOTE:

Clean bolts before reusing.

Replacing the damaged bolts. Refer to the Parts Information.

Always replace the self-locking bolts. Refer to the Parts Information.

NOTE:

Coat the brake pad plates with grease.

Coat the brake pad guides in the brake caliper with Lithium Grease:G 052 150 A2 .

Do not lubricate the seals for brake pistons and rubber components.

-- If the brake pads are being replaced, check the brake rotors for wear and damage.

NOTE:

Always replace brake pads on the same axle at the same time.

Wire for Brake Pad Wear Indicator Sensor, Replacing

Use the complete repair kit when installing new brake pads.

WARNING:

There is a health risk.

Do not blow out brake system with compressed air.

NOTE:

Use only mineral spirits to clean the brake caliper.

Check the protective caps of the brake caliper pistons for damage and install the complete repair kit.

-- Use the :T10145 to press the brake caliper piston completely back into the brake caliper.

To prevent the brake fluid from overflowing, extract some of the brake fluid out of the brake fluid reservoir.

CAUTION:

There is a risk of contamination and paint damage from escaping brake fluid.

If the brake pads are worn out and brake fluid is filled unnecessary, the brake fluid may overflow, causing the pistons in the brake cylinders to be pressed back.
Check the brake fluid level before pressing back the pistons. If there is brake fluid up to the "MAX" mark, some brake fluid will need to be extracted.
Use the :VAS5234 to extract brake fluid from the brake fluid reservoir.

NOTE:

Coat the brake pad plates with grease.

Coat the guide pins and brake pad contact surfaces with Lithium Grease:G 052 150 A2 .

Do not lubricate the seals for brake pistons and rubber components.

-- Clip the brake pad retaining plate -1 and 2- in the brake caliper.

NOTE:

Do not change the shape of the brake pad spring and brake pad retaining plate.

Damaged brake pad springs and brake pad retaining plates must be replaced.

-- Clean the brake caliper at the contact surfaces -arrows- for the brake pad retaining plates and thinly coat with Lithium Grease:G 052 150 A2 .

-- If re-using, install the marked brake pads in the same location.

-- Insert the brake pads -3 and 4- into the brake caliper one after the other by pressing each brake pad against the brake pad springs and pushing them all the way onto the brake pad retaining plates.

-- Install the brake caliper.

NOTE:

Make sure the brake hose is routed correctly.

Make sure the brake hose is not pinched, bent, twisted or rubbing against the vehicle.

-- Install the wire for the brake pad wear indicator sensor.

NOTE:

Clean bolts before reusing.

Replace damaged bolts.

Always replace self-locking bolts.

-- Check brake fluid level, and fill if necessary.

WARNING:

Risk of accident!

With the vehicle stationary, firmly press the brake pedal several times so that the brake pads in the operating condition properly sit in their respective position.
Make sure the brakes are working correctly before driving the vehicle for the first time.
