ABS Control Module -J104- WITH ABS Hydraulic Unit -N55-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING: Removing

-- Read out the control module code using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester and write it down.

-- Insert the :VAG1869/2 between the brake pedal and driver seat. Pretension the brake pedal at least 60 mm.

NOTE:

By doing this, the valves in the brake master cylinder are closed and the brake fluid reservoir does not run empty.

-- Connect the container hose to a front brake caliper bleed screw.

WARNING:

Brake fluid is poisonous, and must never be siphoned by mouth under any circumstances.
Wash off any brake fluid that comes into contact with the skin with a lot of water.
If brake fluid contacts the eyes, wash out the eyes and see a doctor.

-- Connect the container hose to the bleed screw from both the front and rear brake caliper.

-- Open the bleed screw on both the front and rear brake caliper to reduce the pressure in the Hydraulic Unit -N55-.

-- Reclose the front and rear bleed screws.

NOTE:

Do not remove the :VAG1869/2 .

-- Press the securing clip on the connector to the control module -1- up.

-- Pull the securing bracket in the direction of the -arrow- and remove the connector.

NOTE:

Make sure that no brake fluid enters the control module connector housing. This could lead to contact corrosion and thereby cause the system to fail.

A contaminated connector housing must be carefully cleaned with compressed air.

SQ-5 models:

-- Remove the coolant expansion tank.

-- Loosen the engine control module from the retainer and place to the side.

-- Remove the bracket for the engine control module.

-- Loosen the pressure pipe to the throttle valve at the hose clamp.

-- Push the pressure pipe to the side.

NOTE:

Do not loose the seal between the pressure pipe and the throttle valve.

For all vehicles:

-- To protect against escaping brake fluid, place enough lint-free cloths in the area under the ABS Control Module -J104- and the ABS Hydraulic Unit -N55-.

-- Mark the brake lines for installation later.

-- Remove the brake lines from the ABS Hydraulic Unit -N55- to the brake master cylinder.

WARNING:

Do not bend the brake lines past their form or damage them.

A bent or damaged brake line must be replaced.

-- Remove the remaining brake lines -arrows- from the ABS Hydraulic Unit -N55-.

-- Seal the brake lines and threaded holes with plugs from the repair kit.

-- Carefully pull the ABS Hydraulic Unit -N55- with the ABS Control Module -J104- upward and out of the bracket.

When removing the ESP control unit from the bracket, make sure the rubber buffers do not fall into the engine compartment.

CAUTION:

Strong vibrations (for example falls, impacts) can damage the control module. The control module must then no longer be used.

-- Place the ABS Hydraulic Unit -N55- with the ABS Control Module -J104- down on a clean and level surface.

NOTE:

The hydraulic unit must not idle, otherwise this can lead to problems when bleeding the brake system.

A new hydraulic unit is prefilled for the service with the brake fluid.

All openings of the hydraulic unit must be closed when installing.

After removing the ABS Control Module -J104- and ABS Hydraulic Unit -N55-, the threaded holes and brake lines must be sealed off with plugs.
