Fuel Tank, Installing

Special tools and workshop equipment required

Engine and Gearbox Jack:VAS6931

Install in reverse order of removal and note the following:

The fuel lines to the fuel delivery unit must be clipped onto the fuel tank.

-- Position the fuel tank with mounting straps on the underbody using the :VAS6931 .

-- When positioning the fuel tank, make sure that the fuel filler neck is guided correctly into the opening of the body.

-- Tighten the bolts -1 through 7- for the mounting straps and fuel tank.

-- Connect the lines with the connector coupling. Refer to CONNECTOR COUPLINGS, DISCONNECTING .

-- Tighten the bolts -arrows-.

-- TDI vehicles: install the reducing agent filler neck -1-. Refer to the appropriate service information .

-- Depending on the country/equipment version: tighten the bolts -arrows-.

-- Install the subframe. Refer to OVERVIEW - SUBFRAME .

-- Install the driveshaft. Refer to the appropriate service information .

WARNING:

Danger due to electrostatic charge.

After installing, check the electrical connection on the fuel filler neck threaded ring to a bare spot on the body using an ohmmeter.

Specified value: approximately 0 Ω.

-- Vehicle with a high-voltage system: install the Electric Drive Power and Control Electronics -JX1-. Refer to the appropriate service information .

-- TFSI vehicles: install the EVAP canister. Refer to EVAP CANISTER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Install the fuel filler door unit. Refer to FUEL FILLER DOOR UNIT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Install the right bench seat / single seat. Refer to BENCH SEAT/SINGLE SEAT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- TFSI vehicles: connect the battery. At the same time, follow all steps after connecting the battery. Refer to BATTERY, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING .

-- After installing a new or completely empty fuel tank, at least 5 liters (1.3 gallons) of fuel must be added before starting the engine.

NOTE:

Do not allow the fuel pump to run when the fuel tank is empty.
