Component Location Overview - Additional Components (Electric Components, Fresh Air Intake, Water Drains Etc.)
For these vehicles (For example the Audi A4) there are different versions of the A/C system depending on the equipment. Make sure to use the correct version and pay attention to the allocation of different components. Refer to HEATING AND A/C SYSTEM VERSIONS .
The following illustration shows the layout of the components on an Audi A4 sedan, the layout on a vehicle with another body shape (for example on Audi A5) can vary.
- Fresh Air Intake
- Removing and Installing. Refer to FRESH AIR INTAKE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
- Make sure the intake grille is seated correctly. The intake grille prevents foreign objects such as leaves from getting into the heater and A/C unit air intake shroud.
- Depending on the version, for some countries with high dust levels (for example China), a filter is installed instead of intake air grille, which prevents dust and sand from entering the fresh air blower. Refer to FRESH AIR INTAKE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
- Fresh Air Intake Cover
- Removing and Installing. Refer to FRESH AIR INTAKE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
- Check the cover is seated correctly and is not damaged. The cover prevents that water from in the heater and A/C unit fresh air intake air intake shroud from escaping.
- Humidity Sensor in Fresh Air Intake Duct -G657- with or without Air Quality Sensor -G238-
- On a vehicle with a "Low" A/C system (or no A/C system) the Air Quality Sensor -G238- is not installed
- On a vehicle with a "High" A/C system the Air Quality Sensor -G238- and the Humidity Sensor in Fresh Air Intake Duct -G657- are combined in a single component.
- Function mode. Refer to AIR QUALITY SENSOR -G238- FUNCTION .
- Checking using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester AIR QUALITY SENSOR -G238- FUNCTIONALITY, CHECKING .
- Removing and Installing. Refer to AIR QUALITY SENSOR -G238- WITH HUMIDITY SENSOR IN FRESH AIR INTAKE DUCT -G657-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
- The measured value of the Air Quality Sensor -G238- and the Humidity Sensor in Fresh Air Intake Duct -G657- are evaluated by the Front A/C Display Control Head - E87-. Upon request, the Front A/C Display Control Head -E87- switches to recirculating air mode if no shut-off condition is present. Use the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester in the "Guided Fault Finding" function.
- Windshield Defogger -Z2-
- Equipped on some models
- The activation takes place via the Comfort System Central Control Module -J393-. Refer to WINDSHIELD DEFOGGER .
- Notes regarding the function and activation of the windshield defogger. Refer to WINDSHIELD DEFOGGER .
- Windshield removing and Installing. Refer to WINDSHIELD, REMOVING AND INSTALLING
.NOTE:
The request to the windshield defogger is sent by the Front A/C Display Control Head -E87- via the data bus to the Comfort System Central Control Module -J393-. The Windshield Defogger -Z2- is actuated by the Comfort System Central Control Module -J393-. Refer to the appropriate Wiring Diagram(s) and use the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester in the "Guided Fault Finding" function.
- Rear Window Defogger -Z1-
- The request to the rear window defogger is sent by the Front A/C Display Control Head -E87- via the data bus to the Comfort System Central Control Module -J393-. The Rear Window Defogger -Z1- is actuated by the Comfort System Central Control Module -J393-. Refer to the appropriate Wiring Diagram(s) and use the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester in the "Guided Fault Finding" function.
- Notes on function of the rear window defogger. Refer to REAR WINDOW DEFOGGER .
- Rear window, removing and installing. Refer to REAR WINDOW, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
- Vehicle Interior Forced Air Extraction
- Checking using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester VEHICLE INTERIOR FORCED AIR EXTRACTION, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
- Removing and Installing. Refer to VEHICLE INTERIOR FORCED AIR EXTRACTION, REMOVING AND INSTALLING
.NOTE:
A left or right vent frame is installed under the bumper cover respectively.
- Comfort System Central Control Module -J393-
- The activation of various vehicle systems (for example the Rear Window Defogger -Z1- etc.), such as the evaluation of the signals for other components (for example signals from the Humidity Sensor -G355-) occurs via the Comfort System Central Control Module -J393-. Use the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester in the "Guided Fault Finding" function and the appropriate Wiring Diagram(s).
- Removing and Installing. Refer to COMFORT SYSTEM CENTRAL CONTROL MODULE -J393-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
- Plenum Chamber Water Drain
- Checking and Cleaning. Refer to PLENUM CHAMBER WATER DRAIN, CHECKING .
- A right or left drain in the plenum chamber respectivelyNOTE:
Both water drains are currently without valves, the water flows in the area of the rear, right, and the left front wheel housing liner. Refer to PLENUM CHAMBER WATER DRAIN, CHECKING .
- Outside Air Temperature Sensor -G17-
- The measured value of the Outside Air Temperature Sensor -G17- is evaluated by the Vehicle Electrical System Control Module -J519- and is transmitted via the data bus to the Front A/C Display Control Head -E87-. Use the Guided Fault Finding Vehicle Diagnostic Tester in the "Guided Fault Finding" function and refer to the appropriate Wiring Diagram(s).
- Refer to OUTSIDE AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR -G17-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING
