Lower Timing Chain Cover, Replacing: Installing
- Replace the bolts that were tightened with an additional turn after removing them.
- Replace the lower timing chain cover and seal after removal.
-- Cover open engine components.
-- Remove any sealant residue on the cylinder block using a flat blade scraper.
-- Clean any oil or grease off the sealing surfaces.
-- Make sure both alignment bushings for centering the cover -arrows- are present.
- Be sure to check the expiration date of the sealant.
-- Cut the tube nozzle at the front marking (nozzle diameter: approximately 3 mm).
Risk of engine damage due to excess sealant in the lubrication system.
- Do not apply sealant bead thicker than indicated.
Lower Timing Chain Cover with 15 bolts
-- Apply the sealant as shown on the clean sealing surface -arrow 1- and on the edges -arrows 2- of the new cover.
- Sealant bead thickness: 2 to 3 mm.
- The cover must be installed within five minutes after the sealant has been applied.
-- Immediately attach the cover and tighten the bolts. Refer to Figure.
-- Apply the sealant as shown on the clean sealing surface -arrow 1- and on the edges -arrows 2- of the new cover.
- Sealant bead thickness: 2 to 3 mm.
- The cover must be installed within five minutes after the sealant has been applied.
-- Immediately attach the cover and tighten the bolts. Refer to Figure.
Continuation
- Tighten the bolts -arrows- with an additional turn after installing the vibration damper. The bolts must be removed again to install the vibration damper.
- After installing the cover, allow the sealant to harden for approximately 30 minutes. Only afterward may the engine oil be replenished.
Installation is performed in reverse order of removal, noting the following:
-- Install the vibration damper. Refer to VIBRATION DAMPER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Install the ribbed belt tensioner. Refer to RIBBED BELT TENSIONER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Fill the engine oil and check the oil level. Refer to ENGINE OIL .
-- Install the engine cover. Refer to ENGINE COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
