Heater And A/C Unit, Removing And Installing: Removing
-- On vehicles with a high-voltage system, switch off (deactivate) the "auxiliary climate control" function. Refer to the Owner's Manual and Infotainment/MMI Operating Manual.
-- Turn the ignition on.
-- Move the front seats to the rearmost position and extend the MMI display. Refer to Infotainment/MMI Operating Manual.
-- Switch off the ignition.
The cooling system is under pressure when the engine is warm. There is a risk of scalding from hot steam and coolant.
Burns on the skin and other parts of the body are possible.
- Wear safety gloves.
- Wear protective eyewear.
- Reduce the pressure: cover the coolant reservoir cap with a cloth and carefully open.
-- Open the coolant reservoir cap -arrow-.
-- Vehicles with A/C: Discharge the refrigerant circuit. Refer to Refrigerant Circuit (Refrigerant R134a, Servicing; Refrigerant Circuit, Using Service Station) or Working with A/C Service Station (1 Of 2) / Working with A/C Service Station (2 Of 2)
-- Vehicles with A/C: Disconnect the refrigerant line with the inner heat exchanger from the expansion valve. Refer to REFRIGERANT LINES WITH INNER HEAT EXCHANGER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Mark the installed position of the coolant hoses -1 and 4-.
The heater core is designed for a specific coolant flow direction. Therefore, coolant hoses must be connected on the correct sides.
-- Clamp off the coolant hoses using the :3094 .
-- Lift the clamps -2 and 3- and remove the coolant hoses from the heater core for the heater.
-- Slide a short hose -A- onto the upper connection.
-- Insert the compressed-air gun into the end of the hose.
-- Hold a container -B- under the lower connection -C- and carefully blow the coolant out of the heater core using the compressed-air gun.
-- Seal the open lines and connections with clean plugs from the :VAS6122 .
-- Remove the rear footwell vents. Refer to REAR FOOTWELL VENT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the instrument panel central tube. Refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL CROSSMEMBER .
-- If installed: Remove the Access/Start Authorization Control Module -J518-. Refer to Access/Start Authorization (Overview - Access/Start Authorization System).
-- If installed: Remove the air guide channel to the rear vent. Refer to REAR CENTER CONSOLE VENT AIR GUIDE CHANNEL .
-- Disconnect the connector -3- from the fresh air blower -1-.
-- Cover the carpet under the heater and A/C unit with absorbent paper.
-- Remove the airbag control module. Refer to OVERVIEW - AIRBAG CONTROL MODULE .
Danger of the airbag control module malfunctioning caused by corrosion on the connector.
- Cover or seal the airbag control module connector after disconnecting to prevent moisture from entering.
-- Remove the condensation water drain -2- from the heater and A/C unit -1-.
-- Remove the heater and A/C unit -1- from the brackets.
-- Free up the cable channel -3-.
-- Free up the wiring harness -2- at the mounts -4- -arrows-.
-- Remove the heater and A/C unit to the right.
