Camshaft, Removing And Installing: Removing
- The cylinder head cover sealing surfaces on the cylinder head must not be worked on.
- The camshaft bearings are integrated in the cylinder head or cylinder head cover. Before removing the cylinder head cover the tension from the camshaft timing chain must be released.
- During installation, all cable ties must be installed at the same location.
-- Remove the noise insulation. Refer to NOISE INSULATION, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the upper timing chain cover. Refer to UPPER TIMING CHAIN COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the air filter housing. Refer to AIR FILTER HOUSING, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Versions with particulate filter: disconnect the connector -2- for the Exhaust Pressure Sensor 1 -G450-.
-- Disconnect the connectors:
- For EVAP Canister Purge Regulator Valve 1 -N80-
- For Turbocharger Recirculation Valve -N249-
- For Camshaft Position Sensor 3 -G300-
-- Remove the ignition coils. Refer to IGNITION COILS WITH POWER OUTPUT STAGES, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Disconnect the connector -2- from the cam adjustment actuator.
-- Free up the fuel hose -1- and the wire.
-- Release the catches -arrows- and remove the wiring duct with the wiring harness and move to the side.
-- Remove the wiring duct -3- upward from the bracket to do so release the catch.
Risk of destroying the coolant pipes through deformation.
- Never change the coolant pipe bend shape.
-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and carefully pivot the coolant pipe slightly toward the rear.
-- Remove the upper coolant pipe. Refer to UPPER COOLANT PIPE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the oil separator. Refer to OIL SEPARATOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the vacuum pump. Refer to VACUUM PUMP, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the camshaft timing chain. Refer to CAMSHAFT TIMING CHAIN, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Install the : T10531/3 . In the "TDC point" the flat area -1- points upward. Install the : T10531/4 . Turn the crankshaft with a 32 mm open end wrench 90° counter-clockwise out of "TDC".
-- Lock the intake camshaft pretension using the : T40266 or : T10567 in the direction of -arrow 1-, pull the : T40271/2 from the chain sprocket splines in direction of -arrow 2- and bring the camshaft into the rest position.
-- Lock the exhaust camshaft pretension using the : T40266 or : T10567 in the direction of -arrow 1-, pull the : T40271/1 from the chain sprocket splines in direction of -arrow 2- and bring the camshaft into the rest position.
-- Remove the cylinder head cover bolts in -1 to 6- sequence.
-- Pry up the cylinder head cover -2- using a tool for example a screwdriver -1- starting at the chain side.
-- Remove the cylinder head cover together with the camshafts.
- Pay attention that the camshafts do not fall out of the cylinder head cover.
-- Remove the camshaft and cover the open engine components.
-- If necessary for continuing work: mark the roller rocker lever and hydraulic lifter for reinstallation, remove them and place on a clean surface.
