Camshaft Timing Chain, Removing And Installing: Installing

Requirements:

-- Engage the camshaft timing chain with the painted links -arrows- on the camshaft pins as shown.

-- Camshaft timing chain on intake camshaft; mount the exhaust camshaft and the three stage chain sprocket.

-- Insert the glide rail -2- and tighten the guide pin -1-.

-- Insert the guide track -1- and tighten the bolts -arrows-.

-- Lock the pretension of the exhaust camshaft using the : T40266  or : T10567  in the direction of -arrow A- and pull the : T40271/1  from the chain sprocket splines in direction of -arrow B-.

-- Remove the exhaust camshaft in the direction of -arrow C- until the timing chain touches the glide rail -3-.

-- Hold the camshaft in this position, insert the tensioning rail -1- and tighten the guide pin -2-.

-- Remove the : T40271/1  .

-- Lock the intake camshaft pretension using the : T40266  or : T10567  in the direction of -arrow A-, pull the : T40271/2  from the chain sprocket splines in direction of -arrow B- and bring the camshaft into the rest position.

-- Remove the : T40271/2  .

-- Install the bolts -arrows- and tighten them. Tightening specification -item  ) OVERVIEW - CYLINDER HEAD - List Item: Bolt.

-- Coat the holes -arrows- with engine oil.

-- Check if the adapter sleeve -1- is installed.

-- Carefully attach the bearing mount, without tilting.

-- Install the bolts -1 to 6- all the way by hand.

-- Remove the : T40267  .

-- Tighten the bearing bracket bolts. Refer to Figure.

-- Install the oil pump chain.

-- Insert the chain tensioner -2- and tighten the guide pin -1-.

-- Remove the : T40011  . At the same time wire clip must make contact in the opening on the oil pan upper section -arrow-.

-- Checking adjustment:

-- Install the control valves -item  ) OVERVIEW - CAMSHAFT TIMING CHAINS - List Item: Control Valve.

CAUTION:

Risk of damaging the engine by the timing mechanism skipping.

- Only let the engine turn in the direction of engine rotation.

-- Install the : T10531/4  and the : T10531/3  .

-- To ensure that the vales do not make contact when starting, carefully rotate the engine at least two full revolutions.

TIP:

Due to the ratio, the painted chain links no longer match up after the engine has been turned.

-- Remove the knurled nut and the turning over tool.

Further installation is performed in reverse order of removal, while noting the following:

-- Install the lower timing chain cover. Refer to LOWER TIMING CHAIN COVER, REPLACING .

-- Install the upper timing chain cover. Refer to UPPER TIMING CHAIN COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

After removing or replacing the chain drive components the adaptation values for the chain length must be adapted again.

-- Connect the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.

-- Select Diagnostic  operating mode and Start diagnostics  .

-- Select the Select individual test  tab and select the following tree structure consecutively:
