Engine, Installing: Procedure

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 9 other vehicles, including the 2017 Audi A5 Quattro, 2016 Audi A5 Quattro, 2015 Audi A5 Quattro, 2014 Audi A5 Quattro, and 2014 Audi A5. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:

Replace The Bolts That Were Tightened With An Additional Turn.

Replace the self-locking nuts and bolts, as well as the seals, gaskets and O-rings.

Manual transmission vehicles have a needle bearing inside the drive plate. Check if the needle bearing is inserted before installing. Remove and install the needle bearing on the drive plate. Refer to NEEDLE BEARING IN DRIVE PLATE, REPLACING .

Secure all hose connections with hose clamps that match the ones used in series production.

During installation, install all cable ties back at the same position.

-- Position the engine on the transmission while guiding the starter and securing with the bolts accessible from above. Refer to TRANSMISSION, INSTALLING / TRANSMISSION, TRANSPORTING .

-- Release the tension from the :10-222A  spindles.

-- Lower the : VAS6100  and mount the engine and transmission onto the engine mount.

-- Install the engine mount. Refer to ENGINE MOUNT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the : VAS6100  and : 2024A  .

-- Install and tighten the bolts connecting the engine to the transmission. Refer to TRANSMISSION, INSTALLING / TRANSMISSION, TRANSPORTING .

-- If removed, install the ATF lines. Refer to ATF PIPES, REMOVING AND INSTALLINGOVERVIEW - ATF CIRCUIT .

-- Install the catalytic converter. Refer to CATALYTIC CONVERTER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Install the front exhaust pipe/front muffler. Refer to FRONT EXHAUST PIPE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Install the exhaust system without tension. Refer to EXHAUST SYSTEM, INSTALLING WITHOUT TENSION .

-- If remove, install the power steering pump. Refer to REMOVING & INSTALLING POWER STEERING PUMP, VEHICLES WITH DYNAMIC STEERING [CAEB, CPMA] / POWER STEERING PUMP, VEHICLES WITHOUT DYNAMIC STEERING [CAEB, CPMA] .

-- Install the A/C compressor. Refer to A/C COMPRESSOR / A/C COMPRESSOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Install the ribbed belt. Refer to RIBBED BELT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Connections and wire routing. Refer to the appropriate Wiring Diagram(s).

-- Install the engine control module. Refer to ENGINE CONTROL MODULE -J623-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Install the wires, Terminal 30 Wire Junction 2 - TV22- and engine compartment E-box cover. Refer to RELAY CARRIERS, FUSE PANELS AND E-BOXES .

-- Install the tower brace. Refer to TOWER BRACE .

-- Install the windshield wiper fluid reservoir filler neck. Refer to WINDSHIELD WASHER FLUID RESERVOIR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING (CABRIOLET) .

-- Follow all steps after connecting the battery. Refer to BATTERY, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING .

CAUTION:

There Is A Risk Of Destroying The Control Modules Due To Excessive Voltage.

  • Do not use a charger to jump start.

-- Install the air filter housing. Refer to AIR FILTER HOUSING, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Reset the service position. Refer to Body Front .

-- Check the oil level. A4: Refer to the appropriate service information

NOTE:

Used Coolant Cannot Be Used Again.

-- Fill with coolant. Refer to COOLANT, DRAINING AND FILLING .

-- On vehicles with ATF circuit, check the ATF level. Refer to ATF LEVEL, CHECKING .

-- Install the engine cover. Refer to ENGINE COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Install the noise insulation. Refer to Exterior Equipment .

-- Install the front wheel housing liners. Refer to Exterior Equipment .

-- The combustion misfire adaptation must be adapted after replacing the engine. Select 01 Reset Combustion Misfire Adaptation  in Guided Fault Finding  using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.
