Selector Shaft Seal, Replacing: Procedure
- The transmission is installed.
-- Remove the air filter housing. Refer to AIR FILTER AIR FILTER[For engine(s) CNSB, CNTC] for TDI or AIR FILTER[For engine(s) CNSB, CNTC] for TFSI.
Audi A3, Q2:
-- Remove the battery tray. Refer to BATTERY .
All Vehicles:
-- Remove the air filter housing. Refer to AIR FILTER[For engine(s) CNSB, CNTC]
-- Remove the noise insulation. Refer to NOISE INSULATION .
Vehicles with TFSI Engines:
-- Loosen the hose clamp -1- and remove the air duct hose from the charge air cooler.
-- Vehicles with left auxiliary cooler: Free up the coolant hose -3-.
-- Free up the wiring harnesses -1 and 2- at the air duct pipe.
-- Loosen the screw-type clamp -4-.
-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and remove the air duct pipe.
Vehicles with TDI Engines:
-- Loosen the screw-type clamp -2- and bolts -arrows- and remove the air duct pipe -1-.
All vehicles:
-- Remove the clamp -2-.
-- Push the lock washer -3- upward in direction of -arrow- and remove it.
-- Push the selector lever cable off of the selector lever and press it slightly toward the rear.
- Never bend the operating cable too sharply or kink it.
-- Remove the nut -arrow-.
-- Carefully pry the selector lever -A- off the selector shaft.
Risk of Damaging the Contact Surface.
A proper seal can no longer be ensured if there is damage to the contact surface.
- Position the screwdriver carefully.
-- Pierce the seal using a small screwdriver and pull it out.
-- Coat the outer circumference and sealing lips on the new seal with transmission fluid.
-- Fill the space between the sealing/dust lip -arrow- halfway with sealing grease. Refer to the Parts information for the correct sealing grease.
-- Drive the seal in all the way using a 15 mm socket -1-. Do not tilt the seal when doing so.
- The closed side of the seal -arrow- faces outward.
-- Place the selector lever -A- on the selector shaft and fasten -arrow-.
- The selector lever only fits onto the splines in one position.
-- Press the selector lever cable onto the selector lever and adjust the selector lever cable. Refer to SELECTOR LEVER CABLE, CHECKING AND ADJUSTING .
