Camshaft Housing, Removing And Installing: Installing
- Crankshaft is secured with the Crankshaft Lock: T10490 .
- Secure the camshaft hub with the Diesel Injection Pump Locking Pin: 3359 .
- Bolt loosely installed.
-- Cover the open engine components with a clean cloth.
Risk of injuring the eyes from sealant residue.
- Wear protective eyewear.
-- Using a rotating plastic brush, remove any remaining sealant from the cylinder head and the camshaft housing -1-.
-- Clean any oil or grease off the sealing surfaces.
-- Cut the tube nozzle at the front marking (nozzle diameter: approximately 1.5 mm).
-- Apply a sealant bead -arrow- to the clean sealing surfaces on the camshaft housing as shown.
- Sealant bead thickness: 2 mm.
-- Install the camshaft housing within five minutes of applying the sealant.
-- Carefully place the camshaft housing on the cylinder head pay attention to the alignment pins while doing so.
-- Tighten the bolts for the camshaft housing. Refer to Figure.
- After installing the camshaft housing, let the sealant harden for approximately 30 minutes.
Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:
-- Install the emissions control module. Refer to EMISSIONS CONTROL MODULE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Install the camshaft shaft seal. Refer to CAMSHAFT SEAL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Install the cylinder head cover. Refer to CYLINDER HEAD COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Install the toothed belt (adjust valve timing). Refer to Installing (Adjusting Valve Timing) .
Risk of damaging the valves and piston crowns by performing procedures on the valvetrain.
- Only start the engine 30 minutes after installation of the camshaft so that they do not contact the hydraulic lifters.
- To ensure valves do not strike pistons when starting, carefully rotate the crankshaft at least two turns.
